First was a pretty tame cross from Conway spilled by the keeper for a 3 yard tap in. 2nd was a decent header from 5 yards after a Deep looping Taylorcross to the back post. The 2nd shows the type of service hh needs. We were MUCH MUCH better 2nd half.

Thanks Stevo - the second half could NOT have been any worse than the first.

I can honestly say that the first 45 minutes was one of the most inept, lethargic and disjunctive periods of football I've seen from City in a good while.

To come out and overturn that appalling first half performance to win it in the end must speak volumes for Malky's managership.

Must also admit to being surprised on the Beeb write up that Malky had put Gestede on - did he look fit?

We were very poor 1st half. No idea why Whitts was playing in front of the back 4 again.

Improved 2nd half but still not that good.

However 3 points with injuries to key players.

Rudy played well and looked fit when he came on. Good performance from Conway.

I didnt think he should have been selected but I though Don Cowie had a very good 2nd half. Always available for a pass.

    Agreed on Cowie 2nd half.

I thought Rudy caused problems with a bit of movement and being willing but I just don't see goals in him. He was the correct call on the day though as Ipswich looked dodgy when the ball was crossed all game.

Thinking about Conway again this morning, him and hh could be a great combination, for much of last season Conway was lambasted for cutting back inside and delivering the ball from 30 yards in front of the goal line. Most of those balls end up inswing to somewhere around the back post on the 6 yard box which is where hh tends to hang around. I really believe hh will be able to make that delivery work so much better than Miller ever could.

The result is, I haven't seen his goals yet, only the description on the Beeb write up.

What were they like? Did he get into the box to find the ball or was he already in there waiting for it. Genuine question because being in there annoying defenders is where I see his strengths, not having to get in there on the end of quick moves,[/QUOTE]

You can watch the goals on Cardiff City Player.

the second goal was shocking defending, he wasnt marked and had the freedom of portman road to pick his spot with the header, first goal was a ball into the box which the keeper inexplicably fumbled, and heider was quickest to react to poke home.

he's certainly proven his worth, even if he hadnt scored the goals yesterday, some fans dont understand why he's in the team but all fans with knowledge will appreciate the work he puts in to benefit the team, not necessarily himself......<ok>

Cheers Exile - but the vids weren't up there at 9 this morning. I've watch them now and what I've said about Helguson still holds true for me.

He's far better being in the box rather than having to get in there. Both goals were as a result of him being in the right place to take advantage.

Both deliveries from Conway and Taylor out on left were as a result of build up play, not rapid breaks. He was in the box already and snapped the opportunities up like a good 'un.

The balls Malky said "flashed across the box" we hadn't taken advantage of previously would have suited Maynard with his quick turn of pace - Helguson is a very different player.

Swampy - that's a very arrogant post. Fans who don't understand why he's in the team are very few and far between, and I am not one of them.

So you think you have "the knowledge" whereas others who think differently don't?

Everyone is entitled to their own views on players, I agree with Sparkey, for example many fans didnt like Bothroyd, i did although he could be infuriating to watch sometimes, but to suggest that the footballing knowledge differs between what seems to be the chosen view is a little nasty in my book.

yes, perhaps it does. to elaborate on that - although he isnt flashy, he is very effective at what he does, he is not a dream signing and wont cost millions but malky has now had him at two clubs and knows his game inside out, and although some people will look at a piece of paper and say 'he isnt scoring goals, get him out of the team, he is old and slow' which is what i read on the cardiff city forum from quite a few people, then they're the ones that need educating on why he's in the team and we're winning almost week in week out.

comments i was responding to include:

'he's not the best answer up front'

'Hes doing as well as can be expected for a 35 year old.

    I would have preferred Bothroyd.'

the second of which is the the main one.....

dont see how that makes me a 'little nasty' but there we go, take it or leave it :)

OK Swampy. So it's take it or leave it is it? That's fair enough - I'll leave it then.

I certainly don't want to get into an argument with a twenty-year-old who packs such a lot of "knowledge".

Very poor show that some supporters who've followed the club and football in general for many years seem to need "educating".

Ah well, we all live and learn. <ok>

I agree completely with the football argument in Swamp's post but it is the implication that the opinion is based on a superior understanding of the game that I believe Sparkey has comented on.
There is a strong argument to be made in favour of Swamp's (and my) points of view in favour of HH and the overall job he does, but another fan may have a very strong football theory (as it is obviously unproven this season) why a different player may do a better job.

I for one would be bored by a forum that dismissed alternate ideas as 'wrong'.

    ok, agree to disagree.....

personally i dont think just because someone is older they understand football better, but i agree with malky on this and he stuck 2 fingers up at those who doubted him with the goals.....

wrong to say that those who disagree with me have less knowledge, no surprise whatsoever that ISAW jumps on the bandwagon when theres a chance to have a go at the swampster but no probs, water off a ducks back.......:)

There's no merit in age, and knowledge doesn't necessarily come with it.

No one is saying that an older supporter understands football better than someone younger - it's you that's dismissing other people on here who hold valid alternative points of view whatever their age.

Suggesting other posters have less "knowledge" and need "educating" is extremely rude.

Not taking sides but you do have a penchant for being curt on occasion with fellow Bluebirds with alternate views. You're a passionate supporter so always be true to yourself but offer a measured alternative opinion. Now if your talking to other fans........... :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Now Ronny you really are looking for trouble. :emoticon-0183-swear:emoticon-0183-swear

I got the original question right as the starter for 10 points, Swampy got the follow up only worth 5 and he probably used Wiki to get that right.
