You know what looks good? Charity work.

Even if you only keep it up for a couple of months, volunteer at a charity shop a couple days a week. Easy work, no money of course but shows a willingness to work and would-be employers like it as it shows you want to work and haven't just been sitting on your arse posting countless articles on an online football forum.

Tash, I definitely understand your situation. How do you make a SERIOUS CV that stands out in a pack of "I'm passionate"s and "This is my dream"s and "I'm doing this for my dead signifant other"s? I'm not one for conformity, nor being a boring drone, but it appears you have to be to make the cut...
I'm at Uni in my final year, wanting to do a conversion course to Law. To get training contracts for when I've finished a conversion course, I MUST apply now. With no experience of Law other than the mandatory school work experience at a Law firm, where I made photocopies of a Renault handbook for an admin assistant in a cupboard...
I can apply for internships also... 800 applicants for 1 spot at a local solictors... We were allowed 50 words... This is what I wrote...

"Studying archaeology and ancient history, more inexperienced finds you will not unearth in this context, but if you spare time to dig below the surface, you’ll uncover my entrenched desire for legal aid exposure, which your firm offer.

P.S
Don’t worry about archaeological puns... I wouldn’t sink to that level..."

Yep, they didn't pick me...

Suppose you have to just dust yourself off and keep going if you really want something though... Good luck with your job search Tash, I know the difficulties you face.

Think that's a myth. I've done shortlisting for job candidates and been on interview panels, the impact on the shortlisting phase is virtually zero, and minimal in the interview context.

Basically it's a lie made up by schools and universities to get students of their arses, no more.

While I do not want to name him in the public domain, I think I know who you are on about (I know him personally!)

I ironically fear I've made you afraid with my reference to said mental disorder...
Fortunately for you, our collective minds have conclusively decided we know not of whom you speak, after of course deciding we'll have tea and biscuits, well, not biscuits...

I do think you're joking, but do yourself a favour and don't put that on your application in the name of wit and enthusiasm.

Seriously though, charity work. If you get an interview it sounds miles better when they ask what you've been doing for the last 6 months.
