Exactly this...I'm afraid I did have to explain that very point to a lady who cut in front of me to join the middle lane, did the same again to get into the outside lane and then couldn't understand why no-one would let her back across as the lanes closed! Quite amazing really. She probably drove all the way to Westfield and back to get 30% of a pair of shoes!!

. Should let the boxing day hounds on them. Bring back hunting but on the streets of the city that would get things moving a bit

SWEDEN: Saab receivers auction off rare models

    By Graeme Roberts | 28 November 2012

Saab AB's receivers are auctioning off a number of cars including models of which only a few were made, as well as those the defunct automaker began to produce but which never made it to market.

The online auction of 68 Saabs includes cars that cannot be driven on the road, others ready for immediate use and some which need to be completed or registered.

The offering includes two 9-3 Cabriolet Independence Editions, a special model made in 2011 to celebrate Saab's first year as an independent car manufacturer. The intention was to produce 366 cars but production was stopped due to the bankruptcy and only 38 examples exist.

The auction also includes 18 of the 30 9-5 SportCombis (wagons) made and 29 of the 54 2012 model year 9-5 sedans built, including the last unit fully finished at Trollhattan.

Of about 700 examples of Saab's SUV, the GM Mexico-built 9-4X, there are 10 in the auction including the car with chassis number 1 for the European market.

Other models are one of the three existing 9-3 SportCombis painted sky blue and the 9-5 Aero V6 300hp automatic used as a company car by Victor Muller.

NOT FACT YAPPY...NOT FACt. 70-100% alcohol will kill brain cells, but the alcohol in your bloodstream, even when drunk, is much lower than that say 0.02%-0.1%. Lots lower Yappy. Even in alcoholics, alcohol use doesn't actually result in the death of brain cells. However, it can block and alter specific proteins (thats the things that conduct the electricity in the brain) . This results in problems conveying messages between the neurons....which is why alcohol is fun. The neuron cell itself isn't damaged, but the way that it communicates with others is altered. And even in alcoholics this damage is mostly reversible.

However Yappy cirrhosis of the liver is less fun.

May I ask Yappy are you doing GCSE biology? or are you doing arty-farty subjects?

Okay Yappy I do see you are doing arty-farty subjects as you do not actually understand the links you sent. The first one describes the rise in incidence of cancer in alcoholics. Cancer cells, Yappy, are immortal cells, they live and grow forever (assuming they have a blood supply), so quite the opposite of alcohol killing cells.
the second link actually says "Exactly how alcohol affects the brain and the likelihood of reversing the impact of heavy drinking on the brain remain hot topics in alcohol research today".... but mostly mentions poor health and nutrient deficiency in alcoholics (eg Werniche-Korsakoff) again not neuronal death

Memory loss (now this is up my street) and the lack of laying down of memories is probably caused by changes in levels of AMPA and NMDA receptors, which I alluded to in my original message.[ However, it can block and alter specific proteins (thats the things that conduct the electricity in the brain)] . This results in a change in long term potentiation, which you Yappy probably know as LTP. Again not due cell death, but probably downregulation of the molecules themselves, do you not agree Yappy. Of course you haven't mentioned LTD, which also may play a part.

I think liver cirrhosis is a much bigger problem myself...but with your fund of biological knowledge Yappy you may beg to disagree

Funny you should say that Dave, in addition to age related dipsomania, Yappy should also know that us unpleasant old geezers get increasingly vain. In my case I am cultivating a sub John Lydon urban country gentleman look. Got my first flat cap for Christmas, which, when worn with the mustard colored tweed jacket, Strummerville t-shirt, jeans and enormous semi brogue dealer boots creates a vision that never fails to embarrass the kids, shows off my increasing gut but hides the monk-like bald patch. I love aging - who gives a **** what other people think.

Hunting shoppers goes well with the JG Ballard ethos too, and I'll look the part.

Christ, it's gone 4 and I haven't had a drink yet today. Apart from that swig of lighter fluid with lunch.

Just finished a good book on that subject 'The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks ' .

I heard Alcohol dehydrates the brain Beth, and turns off the part that stops you making bad decisions! Can you confirm?<cheers>

Yeah I am a silly cow I support QPR, a sensible person would support a good team that everyone loves like Chelski.
Just accept I know a little bit about brain neuroscience Yappy...and lets just say I drink in moderation, but I don't eat beef from low grade English cows (farmers can be b'stards)

HeLa cells!!! Boy that woman Henrietta (who incidentally was black...what a surprise) was exploited. I use HeLa cells every single day, and the woman and her family have barely got a penny but the big Pharmas are reaping it in....B'stards!

Alcohol does dehydrate, we use it as a dehydration step in fixing cells, and that is why you need to drink water after a heavy session. It is the dehydration that mainly makes you feel so bad, keep up the water levels and you will not feel so bad the next day...also drink your alcohol with water (wine spritzers, scotch and water, gin and tonic)....I would love to say I practice what I preach....but I don't...I forget after a few (yes Yappy I forget...LTP remember)...so in answer to your last question, alcohol doesn't stop you making bad decisions....Now off for another glass of lovely Chablis....with NO added water!!!!
