Interestingly the BBC journos have us at 18th but point out that there are approx 620 000 trillion permutations so they might be wrong!
We get a mention in the Times preview of the Championship today. Unfortunately, it's not a positive mention: "Queens Park Rangers, under the erratically old school Ian Holloway, appear vulnerable to a swift parting of the ways and ensuing season of struggle." They name Burton, Millwall and Ipswich as the other relegation candidates. So it's perm any three from those four. Their tip for the top are Middlesborough, followed by Villa and Sheffield Wednesday, with Cardiff as a long shot.
Can anyone remember what was being said about us in the summer before we were first promotes? Don't recall that there was much hype about us then until we came out of the blocks like a rocket and remained unbeaten until November or near then. Not saying we are anywhere near that now sadly but just curious to know if the pundits got it right then.
As I said on the transfer thread "On the QPR podcast this week they spoke to a Reading fan who described us as their bogey team. He said games at HQ usually finish 1-1 and at their place we tend to win by the odd goal. Let's get optimistic WE ARE NOT GOING TO LOSE TOMORROW."
Given that 80% of us think we will finish bottom half or lower we can't complain too much if that expectation becomes reality. We can bemoan crap performances but our predictions would suggest we don't think the team is good enough.
I will add to that and say we have, as a team/club been mismanaged. People forget that we got relegated from the prem and received a lot of money whereas other clubs have less and performed better. I can moan and groan as much as I want and posters can tell me to stop moaning but the crux of it is that we are not a very well run ship in all departments. If it continues I may need to borrow Tootings avatar
This season I can't imagine anything particularly great happening, which doesn't mean I think we'll have a terrible season. I just hope for at least 60% of the games will be entertaining. I'm trying to get myself into the same frame of mind we had several years ago when Martin Rowlands was our best midfielder and we enjoyed supporting the hoops even though we knew they weren't going anywhere.
I think it's possible for a team to lose a game yet look like they're giving it their all and trying to make something work, whilst also providing an entertaining game. We've had too many **** games where we lost with a whimper. There was no entertainment value and nothing to get behind. Imagine two scenarios: Finishing 18th whilst giving it our all and a lot of battles and entertaining, try hard matches. Finishing 18th in the manner in which we did things last season. I'd be infinitely happier with the first option. Yet I would also hope for more.
Still, if im maybe hyper- negativve about but every win we take i will be over the moon and if we dont relegate or be even better...I will gladly admit, that i was dead wrong! I really , really hope that this scenario will come true but....
I know I have to be careful about criticizing 'Hollow'. The point is that many fans are happy with survival yet a season ago the Chairman sacked JFH because he wasn't getting us promoted. He also changed the goalposts with Benny because he couldn't get us promoted. Now it seems we are all happy with Survival.
'Hollow' seems happy let's hope after 10 games if things go wrong that he doesn't start making excuses. please log in to view this image
Do you not think there has been an improvement over the last year or two in how we are running things Ellers?
If Holloway dosent mess about and picks our strongest 11 in the right positions every week, then i think we could be the surprise package. Outside challengers for playoff spot for me.
