At least it went in the general vicinity of where it vaguely should have been. That not really the point though. The point is that assists are nonsense most of the time, pointless stat that is meaningless really. The whole team could create an attack involving twenty odd passes but if it comes off someone's arse before being buried by the striker it's that persons assist. It's just bollocks.
By the way, just because I laugh at stats and think assist stats in particular are garbage doesn't mean I want Di Maria and his family drowned.
Official assist stats count only intentional passes or penalties won. You can say the same thing about goals. You can score purely by accident by the ball hitting you.
This. When you consider Valencia hasnt put in a decent cross in 3 years - unable to pick out a player and usually does a "chip and hope" or skidding grass-cutter, I think Di Maria at least is able to find a player in the box.
