Theyâre out â first six games now released. And we have: Opening day 18th August Reading v Stoke City 25th August Sunderland v Reading 1st September Chelsea v Reading 15th September Reading v Spurs 22nd September WBA v Reading 29th September Newcastle v Reading So how many points from those ? Not easy games, but then what are now? Iâm optimistically going for a sequence of W-D-L-D-W-D, giving 9 points. Your views (especially Royals fans â¦)?
There's no way you'll draw against us. We crushed the 'lesser' teams at home last season. I see no reason why this will be any different this term.
No disrespect meant. Just that Reading are a funny sort of team. Many times last season we got results out of very little. Didn't have the pure flair of Saints perhaps, but consistency and self-belief was second-to-none. But ... I realize only too well we are now stepping up a gear!
None taken but like I say the main reason we did so well last season is because at home only Chelsea, Man City and West Brom(big injuries) won. So effectively, the Champions of the best league in the world and the Champions of Europe were the only teams to beat us at home We didn't just beat but we crushed Man United, Liverpool, Everton, Stoke, Fulham and more! I doubt this will change
Possible draw @ home Stoke City. The next 5 all look like defeats. Like Saints the fixture gods have not been kind to Reading at all. But if WBA have an off day then that could be a surprise win. With Harry Rednapp out of work would Brian McDermott survive a start like that ? The new PL money on offer from the start of 2013/14 season will make alot of PL owners very trigger happy. The managers round-a-bout could be in overdrive by January. As my team and Blackpool for starters have found out in the past, Its not how you start but also how you finish.
Don't want to derail the thread, but we could have been a goal or top up against you lot at the Sports Direct Arena or whatever it's called now within the first half if Carroll hadn't have been so bizarre (that dive). You scored two goals from nothing, the mark of good strikers, but it wasn't a 'crushing performance'. Newcastle seniors could probably have beaten us after going ahead, our confidence was shot after January. Reading play pretty decent football and will upset a few teams this season so why not Newcastle? Knowing Liverpool they'll beat us.
Two goals from nothing? Ben Arfa skinned your defends throughout the game. The first goal came from Ben Arfa beating two players while we were attacking, crossed the ball into Cisse, Cisse placed a header across goal and scored. 2nd goal, a strong attack while we were enjoying possession - Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba and Cabaye all in the box, drawing defenders, ball came to Cisse, beautiful foot work, skinned the keeper, scored. We were definitely worthy winners of that game. You can say "if we had taken our chances, it would have been different", in any game you like.
2 or 3 points from this (ok benefit of the doubt 4), don't under estimate anyone in this league. You are the new boys, thus the whipping boys. You have it all to prove. Good luck. All 3 promoted sides survived last season, won't happen this season.
How arrogant do you sound? Swansea (H) 0-0 West Brom (H) 2-3 Wolves (H) 2-2 Sunderland (H) 1-1 Fulham (H) 2-1 Norwich (H) 1-0 Blackburn (H) 2-1 QPR (H) 1-0 Wigan (H) 1-0 Yeah, really looks like you 'crushed' all the lesser team at home last season. Promoted teams generally get off to a good start, remember the first time you played each of the promoted teams last season? I will remind you. QPR (D) 0-0 NORWICH (L) 4-2 SWANSEA (D 0-0 Good luck to you Reading boys this season, look forward to you coming to the SOL
I agree with most of what you say BUT if you "crushed" Fulham 2-1, then I have to ask what you thought happened at Craven Cottage (Fulham 5 - Newcastle 2, in case you can't remember) ?
Stoke fan here, Reading is our first game and I'm worried because like a yourselves, Saint's the fixture list has not been that kind to us either! No doubts you lads will be up for this, all guns blazing first game of a new season. I would take a pt and see it as a good pt away. ANY pts away are worth double, it's the same for every team in the Premier League. We then have.. Arsenal Citeh Utd Chelsea and Liverpool I think of those promoted, Reading have the best chance of staying up this season. GOOD LUCK apart from the first game of course.
cheers Pottermouth! So many signings in and outs by so many teams, means it's pretty difficult to make even educated guesses to be honest ...
Pre-season not going very well so far. A fine away win at AFC Wimbledon (7-0) followed by a 1-1draw to a Portuguese 3rd division side, and a 0-2 loss to Sheff Wed last night. Here's news of the Portugal tour - http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/topic/9649676/1
I love the underlining of doubt... is that to convince yourself?
