SO WHAT they could still lose the next three matches and we win our next three and then where does that put them, that's right 1 point clear. It's not over till the fat lady sings, and Cardiff have imploded the last three seasons. Stranger things have happened in the Championship.
I'm very pleased with our business this window, particularly Elmo and Stockdale. The biggest disappointment tho, is that MY FAVOURITE TARGET, has ended up at TWS!! However, it's not a real concern as there will be plenty of option open to us in a week or so when the emergency loan window opens.
Equally they could go unbeaten between now and the end of the season. IMHO the other teams we are fighting with for an auto spot have come out of the window stronger than us, not a complaint, just my opinion. The 2 favourites for the automatic slts are in my opinion the 2 teams currently occupying them.
Before the transfer window opened we were 2nd - after it's closed we are 3rd - however we have the same team except a better keeper and an additional couple of international players. Granted, we could have done with 1 more striker but I hardly think we can be too upset - we have enough about us to finish 2nd
Why all the fuss about needing a proven this or a proven that ? With a handful of exceptions (Geovanni comes to mind though he had his off days) our biggest successes as players over the last few years have been those that weren't proven at whatever level we were at when we signed them. Ash ? Boaz Myhill ? Stuart Elliott ? James Chester ? Steven Quinn ? Dean Windass ? Fraizer Campbell ? Sone Aluko ? There are more but I needn't go on, none were proven at our level. Some proven players were less successful. No names mentioned but went to Ipswich. A good manager has his trusted scouts and contacts, knows what his team needs and finds that. I reckon Bruce has been pretty succesful that way so far in the same way as Taylor was a few years ago
Deano not proven? I think he had more than proved himself at every level including the premier league
I'm looking forward to seeing the egyptians in action. If they dont hit the ground running, we have the emergency loan window
Remember Altidore and now Prozzy? They had in common that they were **** hot in their own league, so we took a punt and you know the rest. Hope Gedo does the biz, but Kev Phillips, Woods and the Campbells know what's needed, so they're the ones to go for. We've almost never been in such a good position at the halfway point, and we needed to push on with a proper recognised ISO-compliant registered official English certified proven goalscorer. But we didn't. Depressing to see so many people bleating 'Oh well, we live in a ****hole, I expect they didn't want to come' and accepting any old garbage. We saw Pearson/Walsh when they were here identify players/targets and BANG BANG BANG recruit them into the building, no pissing about, early doors in the transfer window- none of this wallflower 'hope someone comes to us' **** from last night.
I don't think people are saying that. Most likely we're sticking to our budget and that's letting us down. English players (even Championship) are wanting more all the time, even the mediocre ones. A lot of clubs would have gone for Woods but couldn't beat Leicester on wages.
Time will tell re these Egyptians. Just feel the club was not assertive enough in the last month. Sometimes you have to have sharp elbows and be single minded (like Leicester and Cardiff). Money helps but these clubs are sending out signals 'We mean to go up and we're not ****ing about'. Agents, players and yes, fans, pick up the vibes. Another contributory factor to the flat element at our games.......
Not assertive enough in bringing in Meyler and Brady when O'Niell and Watford respectively were threatening to scupper those deals? Sharp elbows yes, but not at the risk of financial stability. We are right not to be held to ransom over wages or spend everything on 1 player. Last tome we did that we spent £5million on some bloke with glass knees.
You can't deny money is a factor - we couldn't compete with Leicester for Wood on fee or wages and then you get the likes of DJC showing his true colours. Okay we didn't get the recognised striker we all wanted but I don't think it was for lack of trying
I'm happy with what we did. In a ideal world a proven striker would of been signed. But people saying we should of spent the money on that was spent on Meyler and Brady on striker are mad. What if we did that and bang Brady ends up at Watford and Sunderland sell Meyler or won't loan. They're just as important as the striker. But who has gone to someone in Championship this window who is better then what we have? Campbell had no intenion of coming back, Wood would of been class, but Leicester would of blow us out the water wages wise and he wanted to stay in the midlands and It really isn't as easy as some people think.
Who is denying money is a factor? I've just watched Steve Bruce on Look North looking foolish as he tries to explain why DJ Campbell just ****ed off to Blackburn in mid negotiations. The club looks amateurish and second rate in the way it projects itself in the media: outflanked and perplexed. The club really does need to step up to the plate in its dealings with the media and the fans.
where you in the room with Campbell & Bruce? No. Don't sound off and take shots when you know **** all about it, you sound like a right know-it-all.
All transfers have the element of risk. Yes the these Egyptians are unknown in this country, but Bruce could have signed some real gems here. And even if he had signed a well known striker, whose to say they wouldn't have flopped. You never know in football.
