I like branded stuff for the quality but I don't like logos. There are a couple of brands that give me that so I stick with them. Something discreet is alright but I feel like a clip wearing anything with a blatant label on it.
actually, i was quite shocked to find out he was in one of the new flats just off the bridge with his lass, the 'penthouse type' ones..well they were new at the time, plus he smoked and liked nights out, it was some ridiculously priced one bedroom thing and he only worked in wholesale, wondered how he could keep up with it all and in the end decided he was either a massive BS'er or someone had left him a decent wedge.
I remember me mam entrusted me to buy me own coat after me persuasion when at school. Gave me £30 and off I went into town. Soldier of fortune shop, fishtail parka. £20. She was made up when i got home and gave her £10 change, and the sight of a plastic bag bursting with what looked like a 30 tog king size duvet. "Well done" was followed by "what's this old rag" and me dad rugby kicking it in the bag into a neighbour's garden. I retrieved it and years later my mother confessed, it was "the best coat ever purchased". I've still got it 40 years later
The trick is to know the difference between 'military grade', which means expensive and crap, and 'military grade' which means the stuff the military buy with their own money
They were US army surplus. We used to think the sewn repairs were bullet holes from Vietnam but in reality were probably barbed wire and ciggie burns
What about Aftershaves? I've bought my old man Tom Ford Noir extreme for Christmas. I think any of the Tom Ford collection is a great aftershave for older blokes. I'm using Allure Homme Sport and Sauvage, at the moment.
I wear suit trousers, shirt and formal shoes for work, and can't wait to get them off when I get in. Then i dress like a tramp for hanging about at home. Pair of shorts and any old t shirt. I've got a VW campervan Christmas t shirt I bought a couple of years ago in Tesco for £2 in the January sale and it has "Have a Vantastic Christmas" written on it. The daughter will say "haway man Dad, its bloody July"!! Never seen the point in spending loads on fancy clothes, I don't need to impress anyone. I have some cold weather clothing for when I take the dogs out, but it's functional rather than stylish. I do brush up well when I need to though, and must admit I look smart as **** in a suit.
My partner on the farm bought us both a pair in 1992 he emigrated to Canada in 2000 and I saw a photo of him a couple of weeks ago and he is still wearing them
Something I noticed, many years ago, when I used to frequent Belford House, the Shipyards Club. On a weekend, the shop floor lads would 'dress up' for the occassion. The 'office types' tended to 'dress down'. In other words each group went in for a change. And it was understandable. If you wore a suit all week at work, you would feel more relaxed in jeans and a T-shirt on Friday night. Now that I've retired I am in casual attire most of the time. So when I do get the chance to get out, socialy, I 'smarten up'.
