couple of us used to get laughed at down the brickworks, they wondered why we wore our new jeans for work and faded ones to go out.

to be honest i was never into fashion as such, i chose gear to cover me up and keep me warm and used to laugh at the divvies out on a friday night in winter with basically skimpy gear and not even a coat...ffs, the warmest coat i ever wore was my afghan, don't care how i looked i never froze.

last job i was at one lad was telling us how he had to go to leeds for his clothes as the shops up here 'were sh1te', then boasted about his £350 pair of jeans and how he would not pay less than £150 for a shirt and that he never wore anything twice, selling them on ebay at a fraction of cost... i nearly fell through the floor '350 feckin quid on one pair of jeans ffs...that would be my entire wardrobe for three years' he was not impressed, lol.

I studied at college in the art of how to look a clip.

Passed with distinction . You could put three grands worth of clobber on me and it would look like you'd spent forty five.

    So, I spend forty five!

I think I wrote on here earlier, until I was about 20 all I owned was a pair of wranglers a wrangler shirt and a World War Two flying jacket, wish I had the bugger now, it would be worth a fortune.

Always interested in clothes, grew up around my Aunt's workrooms were she plied her trade with needle and thread, and I spent a lot of time amongst sowing machines, sample books and Vogue magazines, as I grew older she made clothes for all the family and she had old clothes that people brought in for repair and never collected, that she could alter and make compatible with more modern gear.
I've met lads like the one you mention, some of my friends used to go down to London to buy stuff and one or two did very well selling but this was pre E-bay and a lot of money could be made in the NE doing just this..
As an aside I spend a bit of time on Pinterest and look at what is popular to-day in the "street fashion" or "couture" sections, and it has tears running down my cheeks sometimes, but my Aunt bless her would have loved it. <ok>

I went to the Sunderland Art School in Backhouse Park on school release in the fifties, as it was then, all I remember was the students, Eric Scott and his brother were the leading lights, and a very early jug band was in residence playing stuff I had never heard before, or since,, but I assume it was the forerunner of skiffle, before "Lonnie" invented it.

I like me designer gear - T's, track tops and jeans for casual, but always a nice shirt for a night on the town.
Trouble is, as I've got older I've got fatter and everything looks ****e!

I always have liked my clothes and still do. I am no spring chicken and not a model shape. I reckon they do make good gear for us old big and old lads though.

My go to gear is a decent pair of chinos (dont like jeans) and a polo. I like Boss and Gant gear. Lacoste make a nice polo as well for a big fella like me. I am not a fan of these trainer/shoes people wear on tele. Nice pair of shoes are worth good money IMO. It is amazing how long some gear lasts as well. I have a cracking Barbour coat that has lasted years and a pair of shoes that are over 10 years old and still look great.

I am probably one of those daft people that get taken in by labels, but I have a lot of brand loyalty.

I have 50 year old stuff that I can still wear, but not that often. I prefer the modern unstructured stuff warm and comfortable and easy to get used to.

It is the only way to live. I want to live a life of all things beautiful and stunning. The older I get the more beauty in my life I want. Lockdown has seen me become transfixed by renaissance art. If I have a glass of malt or wine in hamd at the same time as looking at a great I feel amazing.

If it's a social event, I usually wear a suit, black, Italian, 2 buttons, tapered trousers with a tactical lining. Black shirt and tie. Turtle neck when I'm relaxing.

I either look like I'm participating in Squid Game, or auditioning for Doctor Who.
