This is the world of Chelsea and Man City that we're talking about.

Dzeko went for £27m, despite being totally unproven in England.
Balotelli cost £24m, despite being a complete arsehole.
    Ramires cost £18.5m.
    Zhirkov cost £18m.

    Your expectations are irrelevant.

If Citeh buy them then it will be stupid money
I never thought I'd say this but Chelsea are more conservative with their prices <laugh>

    Yaya Toure £24,000,000
    David Silva £25,000,000
    James Milner £26,000,000

This is what Citeh pay for midfielders.

And why the 'if player X is worth ?? then y is worth ????' argument is stupid

    Milner is pants.
If milner is worth 26 then Toure is worth 50. See? it doens't work and it's a ridiculous way to think about it.

Foreign world beaters midfielders are around 25 mil. English better than average are 26 mil.

IMO the right price for Modric is low 20s.

You're not taking into account things like length of contract and the spending power of the club that the player is contracted to.
It's not just about what Modric is worth, but about what Modric is worth to Spurs.

English players gain value because they are contracted to English clubs.
Would Fabregas be worth less, just because he's not English?

    I agree with that.

What I don't agree with is when someone says if Milner is worth 26 then some foreign player is worth double.
If Bent is worth 24 then .....
If Henderson is worth 20 then....

You can't use prices for English players.

If Phil Jones is worth 16.5 then some Italian centrehalf is worth 33.

    It isn't relevant to discussion.

It depends on how you're using the information.

The prices set simply represent deals between English clubs, in my opinion, with nationality not making much of an impact.
Youth obviously plays a part, as you have to add on quite a bid for perceived potential, which is why Jones, Henderson and Carroll cost so much.
Competition between the clubs and buying power of the bidding club also come into it.

Chelsea see themselves as a local rival to Spurs.
The clubs finished fairly closely in the table in the last two seasons.
They've made an undesired bid for a key player on a long contract.
All of that points to a very high fee.

Fabregas fills a quota spot and is considered English.
    And he's world class.

Fabregas is considered homegrown, not English.
There's a distinct difference, as no Englishman would like to move home to Barcelona! <laugh>

    Is he world class?
Depends upon how you define it.
I'd suggest that anybody that's not in his country's first XI isn't world class, by it's very definition.

I think the quota rules are the primary driver of the price of English players and 'Englishness' makes up literally half the value of any transfer.
Proper English players almost never leave for other leagues as well. Because no one wants them to be honest.

Most English players don't go abroad because there's little to motivate them to.
The wages paid here are very competitive and they don't have to leave their families and friends.

They're all too stupid to learn another language, too! <laugh>

Sell Keane ,Crouch ,bently ,hutton ,gio ,gomes and o'hara .only sell Bale if we get a stupid offer(I think we have seen the best of him and other teams have worked him out) and get 2 quality strikers 2 center backs and a good keeper .
Use a mix of squad and youth in the europa and fizzy pop cup
