Oh and also Blackburn and Wigan were in the premier league when West Ham went down you know.... and I've been watching all MOTD's this season (mostly because we're doing so well) and not once have I heard anyone say Steve Kean is unlucky, you need to switch to the English version of MOTD not the Indian one where the Venky's (the chicken people) actually have a vested interest in the club. Your almost as bad a pundit as Merson mate.... Hows Carolls first touch these day...
Potentially it puts newcastle players in the window for other clubs and as we've seen Mike Ashley isnt one for holding onto something when decent £££ is being offered. Its definately nice to see a different set of teams in the mix for the top 6 though, even if its quite early in the season.
Aye, we all know about Ashley's penchant for selling players, but to be fair £35m for Carroll is huge money, Jose wanted to go and the board didn't want Nolan or Barton, so we're not really a selling club as such. what I would say however, is that, judging by the players we've been linked to over the past year, and the quality of player our scouting network have been bringing in, IF we should lose players like Cabaye, Tiote or Colocinni, it'll only be for top dollar and we'll have replacements already lined up!
I don't buy all of this "they haven't played anyone yet" malarky, Newcastle are getting results against teams any top team would expect. These type of games have been our downfall in recent years and Stoke last night proved just how good Newcastle are set up. They can get a result against Utd and I think they can beat Chelsea, City there's no point trying to guess but someone has to beat them at some point. History tells us that teams who usually hover around the top 4 this early in the season tend to drop off after christmas but newcastle are looking to bring in new players in Jan which would give them a much needed refreshment for the 2nd half of the season. I think they could get top 6 if they take the right approach.
right... 1 look at the games they played so far. 2. look at how settled thier side is 3. look at the fixtures that they've coming up. in the end they've a decent outfit thats well organised. however as we all know (especially seeing we finihsed 7th and 6th) that a decent side itsn't enough to keep up the pace they've set. IMO they should not be looking at top 4 but at each game as it comes and maximise thier return. See where they get to but right now the good thing is 40points is now not an issue so they can think about a cup run, europeam places come the post christmas period
I can just imagine Lucas looking at the PL table with his bottom lip out. We won't end up finishing above Liverpool, your squad is tremendous. However to compare us to the capitulation of Hull is really just you clutching at straws because you can't stand us sitting in 3rd place, unbeaten after 10 games when you thought this was 'going to be Liverpools year'. Other than that however, most of the views on this thread are fair and similar to my own, Pardew has done a magnificent job but Top 7 is the best we can hope for. Fun winding Pulis up last night too, I'm sure even 'pool fans appreciated that!
I think Newcastle have started very well but I will be gobsmacked if they finish top 6. I think they will drop down come Christmas but the key for the Newcastle players is to not lose heart if and when this happens (Like with Sunderland last year who were 6/7th with a good run and then imploded) because I still feel that the Europa League is a very real opportunity for them and would be a fantastic achievement for Pardew, the team and the fans.
How did they go from 20 points in 9 games to 17 points in 10 games?? Your facts are rubbish! That's even worse! And I just thought the reason was the Man City team talk debacle, maybe you're right though, and the Sunderland defeat was just the start of the rot. Blackburn had Sam Allardyce as coach for half that season, so they were much better offensively and defensively, and weren't a shambles like they are under Steve Kean. Similarly Wigan had Charles N'Zogbia who probably got them half their points last season, as Newcastle fans should know seeing as he scored 2 goals against you at St James! You must not be taking much notice of Shearer talking then (don't blame you, he's the thickest pundit around next to Merson), he said something along the lines of "Steve Kean was the right man at the start of the season, so he can't not be the right man, the fans need to give him time and patience". No, I really wasn't comparing Newcastle's season to Hull's, you really have to start paying attention to what I say, instead of making up an imaginary argument for me and attacking it. I was clearly contending Chappaz' statement that you needed "a couple of players who are amongst the best in the divisions in their respective positions" to be this high in the table after 10 games. I just pointed out Hull were just as high after 10 games, so its hardly an indication that you're going to be there at the end of the season.
Nothing given out after 10 game's but you can't not be impressed with Newcastle so far this season. They have a solid settled centre back partnership and Ba is a handful up front.
Ba is looking good and they have had a good start, credit where due. However Ashley will probably sell Ba in January and we are talking about Newcastle here so it is bound to go spectaculary wrong at some point. May have a fiver on them getting relagated.
Im thinking of placing a similar wager in Carroll doing Suarez' dentist a favour and knocking his teeth out in a training ground bust-up.
It's really down the the fact we actually have really good players in Coloccini, Krul, Tiote, Cabaye, Jonas and Ba. We also have a really good youth system now and our reserves are also unbeaten. Ben Arfa and Santon also good players that can't get in the side. Fat Ash will be rubbing his hands together is my only fear.
