The Allams have spent a lot this season to make us serious promotion contenders and it would be a shame to see that opportunity lost now for the sake of a final investment to get us over the line.

Surely you can deflect better than that, really disappointing.

Lets just all agree Barmby had money him and Pearson didnt want to spend it, we failed to get promotion because of it and he got the sack.

<laugh> Fair enough, Nick was given a blank cheque book, decided he didn't want a better team and then got sacked for pretending that he hadn't been supported at all.

Anyone who believes that is, quite frankly, a moron.

I have to agree with OLM here... and so what if Barmby had previously come out and said we didn't need to strengthen? If he knew there were no funds available what else would he have said at the time? "Well we could do with bringing someone in as we're not good enough currently but I already know there's no money available so I'm basically just putting my current players down for no good reason"

The Allams didn't come out with the Billy Sharp thing until after Barmby was given the boot. Also, we're currently using our summer budget now. We're not as willing to spend as the Allams seem to suggest we are. If we bring nobody in there'll be a bit of a backlash out of disappointment to which there'll be a club statement declaring money was available but we couldn't find the right man for the job or something along those lines. I think a patterns emerging and I hope I'm wrong.

Either way, the clock is ticking.

The days (and night) up to midnight 31/1 will shape our season.

I am really sure a couple of times Nick B said he was happy with who we had and that he thought we did not need to sign a striker, also that he would live or die by his decision.

Besides I am glad he was sacked . chances are we would have got relegated with him in charge this season.

    Ps Benjo.

The Allams have blown millions on Hull City .

There will be NO backlash from me if they choose to spend no more .

That they have... but if nobody comes in I can guarantee you there will be a backlash of some sorts. From the types of people who get air time on Humberside and those that are already stressing that we've not brought in a striker now and have lost a cup game. Personally I think our squad got us this far on merit and can turn our current form around... possibly not for an automatic spot, but I'm not going to go mental if nobody else is brought in and I think we'll finish comfortably in the top 6 as it stands now. It's an improvement on last year and I'll take it if that's the best we can get.

I'm sure that Nicky Barmby like everyone else in football when being interviewed spins things, conceals things, is economical with the truth etc.

He would never have said "I've got 3 million to spend" or "I've got nowt"- he has to put it in vague terms for the club's best interests.

That whole episode was full of hollow statements making it very difficult to decipher what was really going on.

Your right there Benjo ... Some people act like big babies IF we have a bad game or lose to a team we ' should ' beat.

Some of those demanding the Allams splash more millions were ranting and raving when ticket prices went up.

Right now we are the number one team in Yorkshire ... It wasn't long ago we was below Scarborough !

Anything could happen between now and Thursday.

The Allams stand to lose more then anyone IF we can't get to the premier league sooner or later..

This is the part that pokes a hole in everything I've said above... I can't figure this bit out. One minute there's a promotion conetender's budget to spend which comes via a direct statement from the Allams and then the next thing we know nothing substantial happens and there's apparently no budget for it. Which is it and why do we keep hearing two versions?

That's the thing I can't understand about all this NB/NP bashing. Why would they choose not to spend money that was available?! NP has since spent **** loads at Leicester.

Great post and this is exactly the reason that people complain.

It might not be as much as Sven, but it's still miles more than us and most other teams in this league...

    Not a chance. How's this for example;

Proschwitz, Meyler and Brady combined = 6.6m

De Laet, Morgan, Drinkwater, James, Knockaert and Wood = 6.2 rising to 7.
