i agree. looked good on the ball, was 6' 5". had a great chance to be a big player. might still be Uruguay international frankly but don't see him doing a paletta or whoever and ending up at a big club in italy... it might suit his style though.
Paletta is at Parma, hardly a big big club, decent though. Paletta is in the 23 man roster for the Italian national team though.
but the only example outside of san jose i could come up with. italy suits coates (maybe) and it sort of meets the best he might be. I see him doing an ayala more than anything. in england there are loads of clubs who will only look at him as hell see that goal v wigan and why did lfc f him up... and ignore the issues and buy him. there's always one.
CB's only? Insua is another who struggled a bit with us but went on to better things. Wasn't he going on loan to Stoke or someone like that before he was injured?
Remy would be the best striker to get to play back up to SAS. Also with Champion League, Remy will be playing plenty of games anyway.
yeah i wnet cb only to compare direct to coates. insua... not sure if it was mis management or just plain scapecoating there.
Insua got thrown in the deep end a bit too. Rafa was in a tough spot that year, fighting a lot of battles. Not a CB but we once had Alou DIarra on our books, never played a single game and then went on to captain France and play for Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux etc.
Borini is different to Suarez and Sturridge. He is different to Stirling to. He is not the super scooring, super skillful wonder striker. But that does not make him not good enough. It makes SASAS brilliant. Borini is a great engine playing. He has great energy, athletism and decent pace. He is strong, brave and dring and also has a great work ethic. Borini is a player who will work hard all game every game, when he needs to defend he defends, when he needs to attack he attacks, when he needs to sit and pass he sits and passes. He gets stuck in and is a constant thorn in the opponents side. He may not be spectacular but players like him can be very valuable. They allow the more classy players in the team the freedom they need to play the way they want because he will do the ugly bits for them. Borini will be great coming on late in big games just to solidify things, or giving us an extra energy if we are chasing. He may not score 20 goals a season but he will chip in a decent enough amough of goals and assists over the season. He has been compared Kuyt but with more pace. Kuyt was very useful for us. Some extra pace on him would have been a luxury. Dont compare Borini to SAS. That is like comparing Kuyt to Torres or Kalou to Drogba in a 'who's the best super striker' contest. What is it you guys like to say. 'You cant have a whole squad of super stars'.
Antonio Barragan is a similar player. Only made 1 sub appearance for us and then left after a year and is now playing for Valencia.
Not to burst our bubble but i really genuinely believe Suarez will go this summer no matter what happens and to be honest he will go with my blessing and thanks. Unless Suarez plans to end his career with us which i do not believe he does, he will have to leave at some point. This summer will prove the best time to get highest value for our top asset as he will have just helped us to one of our most successful prem attempts ever, whatever the outcome of the league. He will probably have just had a reasonable world cup He will have been voted footballer of the season and probably have the golden boot award. Despite all he has done for us I am not that worried about his departure, we managed fine without him at start of season, but if we lose him we will have to invest some time in the defence as we wont be able to attempt to outscore teams as often as we have recently. I would expect us to get some where between 70-90 mil which is no kick up the arse. This will help to develop the stadium so good luck to the guy
Borini has been quality for us in patches, but in truth lads, it's overblown cos he's been great for a **** side, he still, to me, shows little sign of being an LFC player. I'd likely say another year on loan, or even to Christmas, to get a true gauge of his development. On Coates, I have to say I watched him in an U19 tourney and he looked fantastic, I'd not write him off, send him on loan to an upper Championship or lower Prem club, remember, the likes of Godin, Lugano & Caceres were all 23/24 before they realy made a mark, and all 3 are (or where, in Lugano's case) excellent.
I hope we keep him. He's young enough and as a 3rd option behind Suarez & Sturridge, if we sold him, we'd have to probably pay another £11m plus wages in on someone who may be just as bad. Give him one more season and see how he does, being 22 we should be able to get something relatively close to that after next season given that he'll also have a CL medal to his name.
