If you think our defense is bad try having a look on the BBC website at the Kilmarnock Vs Aberdeen highlights. My other team also got thumped 4-0 but it could have been many more as the defense literally went AWOL.
It pains me to say it (as I am still qualified to play for Scotland through my father, having mysteriously been overlooked by successive England managers), but Scottish football is the pits at present. I appreciate that the population is only a tenth of England's, but smaller countries without Scotland's glorious football history have their day in the sun every now and again. What makes me laugh is how the authorities there keep messing about with the league structure and promotion/relegation in an attempt to make things interesting and competitive. When you have one Championship-standard club, half a dozen League One standard clubs, and the rest are mainly non-league standard, it won't help however you slice and dice it. When I first started watching football, there was a real rivalry between England and Scotland and Scotland were comfortably ahead in wins in matches between the two. Then Frank Haffey came along and Scotland never really recovered. ('What's the time? Nearly ten past Haffey").
Coquelin hosted a Q&A earlier - and this gem made it on to sport bible. Made me chuckle on a packed bus anyway.
Did you know that after the 9-3 Haffey emigrated to Australia and made a living as a song and dance man? True!
Who says the club doesn't reply to e-mails? I sent one in 2 days ago regretting the lack of loanwatch, because I liked to keep in touch with the progress of young players like Dillon Phillips, Callum Harriott and Tony Watt. Olly sent me a reply assuring me that the temporary absence was due purely to pressure of work, and loanwatch will return after Christmas(by which time Watt will have gone)!
It will be interesting to see how The Hatters do now with Nathan Jones as manager. Very well I expect. A good club for him to start at, with their enthusiastic fan base.
I think he would have been the ideal choice for Charlton, with so many of the young players he did so much to develop now in the first team squad. He cannot be too expensive if Luton can afford him. On the other hand, do we really want someone with such a serious dandruff problem around the club?
Very good squad also - massively underachieving this season. Good luck to him - he appears to be one of footballs ''good guys''
Is anybody else astounded that they discuss a players football manager stats on SSN as if it means anything? Football manager stats mean sweet FA. Amateur.
https://m.dreamteamfc.com/c/jonjo-s...-_-DreamTeamSocial-_-326993357-_-Imageandlink Shelvey apparently calling out a Swansea fan.
https://lockerdome.com/bbcsporf/6169461380096065/8374257507919124 Here's why they had a go at shelvey - and you have to agree. That's poor from a player who's hoping to make euro 2016 - and far removed from the player we had.
David Bowie. RIP Fantastic musician, and legend. Gave music a new range of options and one of the major influences on the New Romantic music of the eighties, influencing bands like Ultravox, Duran Duran and Japan.
Many lose their way once they leave Charlton: Shelvey, Parker, Bent, Poyet, Hamer, McGinty, Ajayi, etc. Who else? Though BWP has enjoyed an Indian Summer. Who else has improved his career since leaving? (Not just in money terms).
Bit harsh to put Bent and Parker on there. Scotty P went on to win the writers player of the year whilst captaining England in a game. Bent didn't have a great time at Spurs (though his record was still impressive). He too then went on to play a succession of games for England whilst finding the net regularly for Sunderland. Shelvey looks like he is going to Newcastle in a money motivated move - which is disappointing considering he is on the cusp of the National team for Euro 2016.
Yes, I was just swinging wildly, hoping to spark a few other names I had forgotten. Still think Parker never made the most of his talents. He and Bent only got frequently called up for England later in their careers once they were "safe" picks but had lost their edge. Had they been given a real chance for England in their Charlton days it would have been good for them and our club.
I still can't get over the fact we took a 17 year old Theo Walcott to the World Cup instead of Benty (leading English scorer that season).
Harry Arter now has to be considered a success since leaving. Michael Turner (though his 30's haven't been too kind). Dale Stephens?
Got to admire your loyalty. Your golden boy has really come good this season. Twenty-four starts in a useful Brighton side. Do we know how much we got for him?
Deciphering the accounts - it appeared to be in the region of £700k. A dale Stephens is for life - not just for Christmas what we would do for that type of player now.
