To put a picture in a post, right click on the picture in question, select "Copy Image URL" then on your reply, click the insert picture button (3rd from right) and paste in the image URL. Not sure about profile, probably through the my profile menu, don't know.

What's all of this "physically incapable" rubbish?

The last time I checked, most women have a right foot, most women have hands, most women have the ability to build up their neck muscles. No difference to most men there. Women are every bit as good at gymnastics as men, so I can't see a problem with "physically difficult" things, such as getting out of a car within the manditory time, or doing a backflip from the top of the Red Bull floatahome in the harbour at Monte Carlo.

The truth is that very few women have reached the sort of level necessary to be considered for F1. But even then, there's another barrier. The whole point of pay drivers is to take their money, keep their entrance low-key, keep your fingers crossed that he's better than your average pay driver, and if he isn't, make sure the exit is low-key. Above all else, you want to draw as little attention as possible to the fact that there were faster options available. The next female entering and exiting the sport is not going to meet the "low-key" test. Therefore, we won't see a woman until we find one who is unquestionably good enough to get into a midfield car and compete against drivers on salaries.

Perhaps you are not aware of these people Mifune? The Italians alone have had three women behind the wheel in F1: Giovanna Amati; Lella Lombardi; Maria Teresa de Filippis. Additionally, South Africa had Desiré Wilson and Davina Galica (British) drove for two different teams: Hesketh and Surtees.

Yes, your point is valid. No dispute there Mifune! But it was this that prompted my reply:

That's how it was when I saw it (before you edited it). :)

    sounds like...it's been a while:cheesy:
Anyway,if a woman could reach a paydrive at Virgin or Hispania, imagine what publicity that would give to the team, they should give her a seat

you would think a female F1 driver could get a good financial backing to get a seat.

I guess you have to look at grass roots and its mainly Dads and their sons, go kart racing

There are many good points here. But as El_Bando suggests, surely one of the biggest factors is a very simple one: just plain interest!

Of course, this in itself might be the result of sociological factors, such as parenting. But for whatever reason, in spite of the large number of female drivers who show an interest in their late teens and early twenties, very few make it as a professional - in spite of my efforts!
    Ha! Maybe it's my fault…

There have been a few female F1 drivers but most of the time they failed to qualify.

It's all down to 8 year olds karting and being coached and supported properly.

There are female fast jet pilots in various air forces flying fighter jets and pulling sustained G forces.

Danica Patrick was sent over to England, at some expense, to learn motor racing and just spent her time partying. A bit like the English Ladies tennis players.

The rewards of becoming a F1 driver are after you succeed not before...

    Ask Kimi...

Glad this has naturally calmed down. I'd be happy to wager 100 internet points that there will be a female F1 driver in 10 years. The lower formula's now have at least triple the number of girls they had 10 or even 5 years ago. This is of course personal opinion so I can't actually back this up :)

How sad that years of medical science is ignored so we can all be PC. lets ignore the fact that every track and field record in history when compared is a male 100% clean sweep. I guess that's just 'coincidence' is it?

We could say that girls are generally smaller and lighter allowing for a better distribution of Ballast <ok>
Only time will tell whether a girl will make it to F1, there's enough of them in the feeder series to at least give someone a chance.

With such a great advantage surely everyone should be a champ. But when you get to F1, you gotta bulk up, have you never seen an F1 drivers upper torso?

And I've already said I don't mind having afemale in f1 if IF she's good enough. the fact they gave Danica Patrick a test drive shows they'll take almost any mediocre driver a chance if they're female, even if they're only 'good' on ovals.

Of course it's not coincidence Miggs. I don't think anyone is suggesting that women are physically superior to men except on the odd rare occasion. But that's not the point. Some women might be able to do it. All that matters is that the opportunity is there for someone who proves to be exceptional.

The bottom line is "Can she/he do the job required, by being consistently competitive enough in every sense required of her/him?"
    - That's all that matters.

points is a bit of a stretch, it was half a point, in a race stopped halfway through because of a few big accidents. She was 2 laps down and 6th out of 8 at the time.

Well maybe, but the fastest woman in the world is not as fast as the fastest man in the world in 100m, marathon in fact anything and the strongest woman in the world is not as strong as the strongest man in the world and thats the real test isn't it.

Now if youre talking mind games thats a different matter, because I think the female mind is superior and more agile than the male. I know this is true due to losing most arguements with Mrs Becclestone.

Your comment referring to male black drivers is irrelevant simply because these guys are amonst the fittest, fastest, strongest males in the world.

It is irrelevant comparing it to 100m, marathon or anything like that because you are using your body and muscles to produce force and because males have larger muscles they are better, however in F1 you are not mainly using your own muscles to produce force you are withstanding forces that are exerted on you and enduring them. Yes you still need strength in your legs for braking, your neck to withstand the g-forces, and also in your arms to keep the wheel steady in high speed corner, however there is only a certain level you can and need to go with for these and it is inside the female threshold which they can achieve.
