Anyway back to acid attacks - why not actually make them controlled substances? Most of them are probably only used for industrial/business purposes anyway and easy to issue license for that. We use hydrochloric acid (38%), hydrofluoric acid (48%) and nitric acid (69%) in our business. The HF is extremely toxic and caustic. We have to be registered with a chemical supplier and indicate what it will be used for. They don't sell to individuals - only companies. Don't see why that isn't the case in UK. Could still make something pretty nasty with sodium hydroxide pellets but at least you are making them less accessible.
There is an Elephant in the room here. London has the second highest number of acid attacks in the World after Bangladesh . Banning drain cleaner is not the solution , it's like The London Mayor's solution to stabbings . Ban the sale of knives because the people we have let in can't control themselves from stabbing each other . Import backwards violent people from barbaric cultures and punish the majority who don't throw chemicals in people's face or stab each other. London has a knife and acid attack culture now . I feel less sorry for the horse than the teenage girl that got attacked for dishonouring her family.
Are you presuming that it is people we have "let in" or is that a fact? Maybe you are including people we "let in" back in the 1st century BC when the Romans turned up?
I'm not presuming anything acid attacks are perpetrated by a certain section of society you can pretend it's everyone chucking acid at each other if you want .
Nearly all acid attacks are perpetrated in India and Bangladesh, now do you think that it's the people from Roman decent carrying out the attacks in UK or the people from India and Bangladesh ? Not ONLY not ALL but the highest number last year were carried out in Newham in London a total of 85. The most culturally diverse borough in London coincidently it has the highest number of South East Asians. Acid throwing dates to Victorian times, he added – and Britain is witnessing a “new phase” of the violent attacks. “We’ve had acid throwing in this country for over 200 years, and there’s been a new development of it,” said Dr Harding. “But it’s not new and it’s not imported.”
So the highest number of attacks was Newham where white English people are a minority and the minority are carrying out most of the acid attacks? Seems legit .
