Jermain Defoe looks set to return to the field of battle for Tottenham at Norwich after missing the miserable FA Cup defeat by Leeds on Sunday.

Defoe's been carrying a secret injury and playing through the pain - as revealed by the Daily Mirror's Darren Lewis - and the Press Association report that he's raring to go after banging in some medicine.

rrom darren lewis at the mirror The report states: Tottenham will have striker Jermain Defoe back from injury in time to travel to face Norwich in the Barclays Premier League on Wednesday.

The England international missed the 2-1 FA Cup fourth round defeat to Leeds with a pelvic injury but has had an injection to help him be fit to face the Canaries and does not require surgery.

New signing Lewis Holtby is also in contention to make his debut with defender William Gallas fit after a calf problem.

Emmanuel Adebayor (African Cup of Nations), Younes Kaboul and Sandro (both knee) are all missing and Tom Huddlestone (leg) will not be risked.

Provisional squad: Lloris, Friedel, Gomes, Walker, Naughton, Dawson, Gallas, Vertonghen, Caulker, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Sigurdsson, Falque, Townsend, Livermore, Dempsey, Carroll, Mason, Parker, Dembele, Holtby, Bale, Defoe.

Typical Daily Mirror reporter, includes Falque in the squad when he was sent out on loan last week !!

Good news, if so. However, it seems like he's just being patched up at the moment as we're so short of options. It makes me wonder how much longer he will play before needing proper treatment.

says on the OS that he's ok for Weds, but I agree with you NSIS. These injuries are inevitable every season and with the amount JD has played, it's hardly surprising he's struggling a bit.

The picture is on Twitter and then Instagram. He's been given shirt number 23.

AVB said JD is fit, though he then did say something along the lines of - "surgery is not an option, we don't want to take that risk" - which does indicate to me Defoe's got a pretty serious problem, that, if treated will keep him out for weeks which AVB doesn't want, and so they're trying to wrap him up in cotton wool and hope that if they nurse it right, he'll last to the end of the season all fingers crossed.

Just gotta bring in Negredo now though eh Levy? Just to be safe an' all <whistle>
