I'd be suprised if we managed to turn selling Whits into good business this late in the window. I'm confident our squad would end up a weaker place if we sell him for this season at least. I'm sure MM will have noted like the rest of us have how Whits got swamped on Wednesday, I expect a different approach and formation if not team selection for Burnley.
Trouble is if the Gunnar, Kiss and McPhail are still injured the only option he has left is to play Darcy in a holding role. Great in tackling and marking but naff in ball distribution. I suppose he could put Cowie in the middle and bring in Ibby left midfield with Cowie out right, or the trainee Ralls did well in a holding role at Oxford, would Malky put him in this early? Interestingly, I see another potential option, Aaron Wildig, doesn't have a squad number. Anyone know anything?
I said in another thread I thought Cowie would be better used in the holding role (rather than Whits). His work rate alone should help and it means we can get Whits forward. I understand MM is trying to make do as he's without Kiss and Gunnar who I'm guessing he thought would give him the cover he needs for defensive mid.
Brighton score goals, and they don't have to be asked twice if a chance is on offer, they certainly didn't the other night. We had our chances though, notably Cowie, and Whitts put away the Pen, which is a good sign. We just didn't have the players available to make the difference on the night, and Malky would have learnt from the set up he put out, otherwise he isn't the manager we think. Due to Whitts obvious weakness we should have perhaps put him behind the two strikers in a 4 3 1 2 formation, allowing him freedom to get further up the field. But its done now and we need to see how these boys bounce back, no games a gimme, but it would be nice to see them giving the other side a hard time Saturday.
Proph, I think it will also come down to the timing. If this bit of business was to be presented to City in July then maybe it would appeal. However with 11 days left of the window then £6m is of now use when it comes to bolstering the squad if we have nobody in mind. When I say nobody in mind, I mean another creative left footed midfield player with the ability to pull a goal from nothing and a dead accurate shot from a deal ball situation. Not too many of those around. I too hope that you're wrong and, without any backup, believe you to be wrong... hopefully!
