One of the problems we have in this country is too many party's to vote for. I'm all for freedom but when it comes to electing people into powerful offices it would be nice for them to be elected by a bigger proportion of the population.
I didn't count the number of candidates for the European elections last night but I am guessing in our area there was at least 16. So how can we be sure that the odd 200 votes or so that went outside the main parties wouldn't have made some sort of difference?
Who knows but at least they consider that democracy I suppose, more than some poor blighters get!!

Completely agree about the normal person thing. Boris Johnson does something similar. People like to think politicians actually believe what they're saying.

On Question Time last week, Farage came across as a bit obnoxious IMO

That would be proportional representation. The party with the least votes gets eliminated so your vote goes to your next choice. This means that even though nopt your first choice your vote counts towards the next best. Problem being, people wouldn't vote Tory or Labour as a second choice so would go for Lib Dems. Lib Dems would then get the whole secondary vote and end up winning. Meaning majority of people who voted for Tory or Labour both lose and the party who is really the third choice gets in. Strange hoe Lib Dems always advocated a change to PR!

It's fine come the general election Farage will actually have to announce some other policies, then people will realise he's a nasty neo-liberal just like Thatcher. Although saying that I told myself people would realise he's a racist at some point but that doesn't seem to have stopped them voting for him.

Don't worry, at the GE their total number of seats will be somewhere between zero and one.

Thank God there is a bit of sanity around with Labour holding Southampton City Council, and the Lib Dems maintaining control in Eastleigh. Interesting comment made by my not so favourite councillor "Royston Smith" about people voting UKIP and being unable to "articulate" as to why they are voting that way. God help the UK if the Tories decide to "follow" any UKIP policies on anything in the wake of their poor national performance.

Perhaps the world's most famous doppelgangers, Will Ferrell and Chad Smith, had a drum-off last night on The Tonight Show.

    Love it.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like Brightoners are particularly happy about how they've done. They do a good job in European Parliament though.

Get her on here so she and LTL can have a heated debate, and hopefully make our minds up.

    Bring it on!

I think they're great for Europe etc, just bloody awful running your local council. I wish they were good as I like what they stand for, but they're not. Really they're not.
