The question about taxing the rich is an odd one as well. The test is aimed at western democracies but tax rules vary quite a bit so people's responses to that question will presumably vary a huge amount.

Not a surprise at all. I predict the Lib Dems to lose control of all 4 of their councils. Nick Clegg is to blame for that I'm afraid.

People in Sunderland saying they won't vote for the Conservatives due to Thatcher era.

So they're voting for hard-line traditional Conservatives UKIP, who broke away, with their ex-Tory as leader, who describes himself as a Thatcherite.

    Bravo, Sunderland. Bravo.

Prediction from me is: UKIP made strong gains in councillors, but few if any councils. Lib Dems lose a large amount of councillors, and control of all of their councils. The Tories made a few losses, and lose a number of councils to Labour, but a steady night for a governing party. Labour will have a decent night, with overall gains, including councils, but their vote share may be reduced. UKIP will be taking votes off many tonight.

No place is universally one party, but the North East is solid Labour territory. I read 47% share of the vote for Labour, which is fairly substantial.

No UKIP Councillor standing in my ward, thank god. Only Tories, Lib Dems and Labour. I like Election nights, but for a guy in his sixties, it is now too late for me to stay up. I'm off to bed, but hope I don't wake up to "UKIP makes huge gains in local elections". Somehow, I think I will. Good night.

That should prove interesting. I'm sure you'll support your [cough] delight, as they progress through their tenure. :)

I kid you not, I overheard a second generation young Italian [nothing to do with my lot] woman saying she couldn't make up her mind between UkiP and BNP. If only her parents knew.

Having read the Sunderland board, I cannot say that I'm even the least bit surprised.

My worst fears have come true - waking up to see BBC's main headline "UKIP see surge in votes". :(

God knows what's going to happen in next year's general election. Anyone who votes of UKIP in that is a bit stupid really, given that it gives Labour and that complete twat Milliband a better chance of gaining more seats.
