I consider it to be three parts - North America (the large northern land mass), Central America (the 'connector') and South America (the large southern land mass) - what is wrong with that? I think quite a lot of people share that view, and to call them racists is quite out of order. Just because that seems racist in he US does not means it is the same away from there. Would you say that there is no such thing as Central Africa?
That's like saying were racist for seeing us as the uk and Scotland. A bit on a whim here but does everyone see us as European? I never have, I know were on the European plate and all that, but disconnected from the main land mass, we're British, and they're European.
I don't. Europe, for me, is the main land mass. We are part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Europe can bugger off.
The difference is the intent. You all are not Americans so you dont get it, I understand. The US is an extremely racist country with a long history of slavery, jim crow, and segregation. Most of which still exists today. Racists will constantly try to find ways to and imply that people who are not white protestants are "foreigners". Most of the US was once mexican territory for instance. So how can Mexico be in a different continent when Texas, Arizona, California, Nevada were all in Mexico at one point? It is a tool in a giant handbag of tools that people here use to try and make millions of people feel different. California is 51% Hispanic. There is no excuse for tyring to say that they are from a different place, that because the color of their skin is a different shade that they are from a different place, or that the language they speak means they are from a different place. It is seriously a disgusting and racist argument to even try to make. I know you all are not from here, but from someone who is. Refrain from saying that because you will look like a giant racist to anyone who is not a racist themselves.
Racism? Continents - and state borders - are arbitrary lines on a map anyway. No one's said anything negative about Honduran people, simply that geographically it is logical to see North America, Central America and South America. The same way we see Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Southern Europe etc. Some people are far too quick to play the "OMG... RACISM" card.

Well I am sorry, but there is a different culture here. Outside of the Americas, there is nothing wrong with saying that whatsoever. You need to calm down, it isn't meant to be offensive, because over here it isn't.
Mr. Coat. Have you ever been in little league baseball at the age of 11 and had KKK sing up sheets go through the dug out? Have you ever stopped at a stop light and seen the KKK with buckets collecting donations? Have you ever had all the african american owned cars at your highschool trashed? Have you ever seen trucks drive by with Nazi flags, or confederate flags flying on them. Perhaps you dont have armed militias there advocate slavery? I have seen all this and far more. This is the US, our freedom of speech means that people do whatever they want. Until you have seen any of these things first hand then you dont understand. There are things that you do not say or imply.
I understand man. It gets to me. They once pulled an african american out of the woods where we used to play as kids behind my neighborhood who had been lynched. Its a different culture there I know. Just try to look at it from the point of view of us who have to deal with people saying that kind of thing, and use it for other purposes all the time.

Those are all unacceptable things to be occurring and that sort of person is far too prevalent - we have similar groups conducting similar attacks against ethnic groups, though on a smaller scale due to the population differences. Even so, there is a clear difference between those kind of actions and someone making a simple statement that when they look at a map they see a slightly different geographical layout to someone else. There was nothing derogative in what Macca said, nothing offensive about the people living there, no implication that their land being a different shape makes them in any way lesser people to those inhabiting Canada or the United States. Clearly any hateful racism is to be abhorred but there are often instances where someone is labelled a racist as a snap response for something that has no such implications. As you say, racism is a serious issue - would YOU want someone being quite aggressive in calling you a racist for something taken out of context?
Yes actually. I hope that at any point that I say or imply something racist that it is quickly and aggressively pointed out to me. That is just me though. I apologized to macca in private but I will make it public. I did not mean to say that macca was being racist. My anger was not directed at macca but those here who say it for other purposes.
Good win for Ecuador but I still fancy Switzerland to go through. I can see them comfortably beating Honduras, while Ecuador will struggle against a France team playing brilliantly at the moment.
BTW I said that Figgy would be involved in a goal - for Ecuador's first the ball deflected off his shin, changing it's trajectory slightly and helping Valencia score.
