Just watched 24 hour party people with the missus and for the first time in the 12 months I've been down under, I feel homesick.

Older brother and me have been going out listening to that sort of music since I was 14. Lots of good, very drunk, times. Especially in Manchester. Never saw myself moving away long term because he's my best pal.

Made me wonder if you moved elsewhere... What would you miss?

For me it's pubs, the music and going out with my big brother.

You are much better where you are. If you came back, you'd regret it, big time. A little visit to see your family for a couple of weeks, would rid you of that feeling, I'm sure.

Not going to include kids or dog, as I assume they would be with me.

I'd miss my little brother, we are extremely close and I feel a sense of fatherhood over him. Like I'm always watching him from a distance just to make sure he's alright (he always is mind, he does well for himself)

I'd miss just sitting in the house with my mate, and just having a chat. It would be the simple things that I would miss. We always take them for granted.
 
Besides the dogs at my mam and dad's I'd go for a real daft thing, the weather! After a week or so abroad I'm always looking to get back to a bit of British weather again (I couldn't class it as a bit of normality as there's nothing normal about 4 seasons in a day)

I have a good relationship with my brother but a better relationship with my sister so I guess she'll be the one I'll miss the most. GL to you, mate!
 
I feel home sick and I'm home. I really miss my mates. One is in New Zealand, one in the Philippines, one is York and the other Newcastle, still see the lads closer to home now and again, but it just isn't the same without the whole gang together again. Thing is, some of the worst depression I've had in my life has occurred as the group was dispersing so instead maintaining my social out going routine where I'd organically meet new people and forge new relationships, I've reclused and dropped off the social ladder completely. So yeah, homesick at home <laugh> Miss me mates. Would love the gang back together again. My Wedding could be the next opportunity to get us all in the same room again.

I've been out the area now too long to get homesick really. I miss my kids and grandson big time, but they come over here quite a bit and we have real quality time. Saying that, I can't wait to get back for Xmas.... I need cold weather at Crimbo.

I left the NE to be with the woman I would eventually marry. When she decided to end our marriage I would have loved to come back home permanently but I couldn't. Now, I'm glad I stayed because, apart from some things that can't be changed, I am happier than I've ever been!

I was away a lot but never really got homesick.
Aye, I missed my mates but made new ones.
Missed going to the games mind.
When on leave I'd catch up with family & have a few beers with my dad.
Most of it though was spent on the piss with my old mates & passed in a blur.

Don't come back here mate, it's a ****hole, nothing here but doom and gloom , the town is a depressing place, shops closed down and sad miserable people just getting by.
I lived in Perth for 20 years and I've regretted coming back here every day since , just wish I could go back over there to live but I can't afford it now.

you could be in a far worse place, so just get on the blower to your Bro and feel better. Put on some tunes, Couple of beers will help.

I have had an argument with the Mrs tonight, she started it!! , so took a stroll to the local. Because now I can, living in town. Apart from being confronted with 9 euros a pint it's nee different in reality. Barmaid is nice, people talking ****e n having a laugh.

Funnily enough there's a table of whinging Aussies near me. They whinge like ****, mind.

Never ever fancied moving away because of the things you have nearly all said.

Ive got the best mates in the world. Still knocking about with one from being 6yrs old. I'm now 56.
I love SAFC and would hate to miss the matches even tho its bloody difficult at times, most times.
I can go for a beer almost whenever I want.
I dont mind the weather.

I always find that towards the back end of a two week holiday I'm missing English food. As much as I like meat and fries I don't want it everyday forever.

Obviously there are loads of places with fantastic and varied food but there's nothing quite like English grub.
 
Been over here twelve years and what I missed for a couple of years has faded mainly thanks to electronic communications. I don't have anybody left to chat to in my age group but being able to see football on tap from the three top leagues in Europe along with all the Euro and WC comps makes up for that. Pubs too pricey and kiddified for me over here.

Mind having said that about communications I did a little experiment this morning by having the NUFC/Hull game on the TV and laptop and the laptop was about thirty seconds behind the telly. Satellites ain't what used to be.
 
I moved away for 3 years while at uni (granted it was only Manchester) but it's probably inevitable that you'll (just as I did) end up missing those little things you mentioned that you probably took for granted, I certainly did and I was only 3 hours down the road.

You made the right decision mate, so hopefully it'll go as quickly as it came.
 
I lived in S.America for 3 years. During that time the only thing I really missed was spending quality time with friends and family.
Oh and the 1992 cup final.
In those days I kept in touch with the family via short phone calls and writing long letters, I used to look forward to getting the 3-4 week old Football Echo and read it from front to back in one go. Now with the internet, smartphones, skype & social media it is SO much easier to keep in touch, listen/watch any music or footy that you want to.

My advice is to get saving and invite your big bro to visit you next year or agree a date in the next few years.

Ive been on the move since i was 17.

In those years i have spent only 6years back home. That was to buy and sell a couple of houses. I think sometimes i miss it. But then reality kicks in. Do i ****.

I haven't actually been overseas as a true expat although i have worked away from home on a rotational basis (longest spell = 4 months) for the past 20 odd years. And this may sound daft but the one thing i've missed in all those years is special occasions. Kids birthdays, graduations, etc, even deaths of loved ones that you will never see again and just wish you could have been there to say farewell, that hurts.

Oh, and egg and chips. Yes i know you can get that in most countries, but not like we do in the UK and i don't even eat them that often anyway. It's just something i crave when away from home.
