I watched JUngle Book last night, but have been reading the various online contributions. One poster made the point that when we had the ball our players seemed glued to their markers, which has been happening in the games I have watched as well. In other words hiding. Even Lee Bowyer said this after one game. This must be anathema to someone like him who, whatever his faults, no-one ever accused of hiding. It must be driving him up the wall. This particular poster wondered whether it was because they weren't playing for the manager any more, but whatever the reason is they do seem to be playing with fear.
Something is wrong with the relationship between the players and the manager. With this squad Bowyer should be getting more out of them. I feel that the right change of Manager would benefit us.
I don’t think a different manager could do better with this group of players. That’s my opinion. A new manager would only come in and rebuild the squad. I think the change will come from rebuilding the squad. Players out, players in. I think this takes time.
Even on our good run we weren't scoring many, I suspect once Innis & Famewo are back the defensive issues will disappear. The 1-0 losses turn into 0-0s or 1-0 wins.
pearce and oshilaja were obysmal. pearce should not have let the ball bounce for the first. even then, when it did, oshilaja should have been round on the cover. but if you watch it back, he just watches pearce get out muscled and out paced. pearce is awful. half the player jacko was but seems to have tried and fill his void when it comes to speaking after the game. the "we were not good enough, but we'll go again" is becoming a trend on twitter. oshilaja is not at the level we need - dived in too fast for the second. i do wonder what they do in training during the week. they all seem to miss the basics like making yourself some space. competing, pressing, passing (forward), keeping the ball... AS were so much better than us. deserved their win.
We have 16 players out of contract at the end of the season plus 5 loans back to their clubs. A massive shake up like the one we saw 10 years ago is required and that starts right now. If it’s Bowyer to over see it then so be it, but at the moment the season is fading away. Sandgaard was quoted as wanting at least a play off spot. 2 wins from 10 is not that sort of form
