Bolton have a player out with ligament damage to his ankle after a similar tackle to Clare's last week by a different Orient defender. Bolton were aggrieved that it only merited a yellow card.

 

I think on challenges like that there should be retrospective punishments dished out - it was a career ending tackle ffs

 

If the ref hadn't given a yellow there could be, but because he saw it they can't say he made a mistake.

 

Official Attendance was 15126.

 

Granted it was the first home game of the season, which always brings out a good crowd in comparison with some later games.
But 15,126 for a 12:30 kick off televised match?

I've only seen a few seconds of highlights.
But the stands did not look like they were two thirds full.

 

The stadium holds just over 27000. It is about 56 to 57 per cent full.

 

This figure includes comps and season tickets issued.
You can guarantee the bums on seats was short of this figure.

 

It seems the "official" attendance has more to do with trying to impress sponsors or potential sponsors than any attempt to be accurate.
Still, I suppose this is true of most if not all football Clubs.

Trouble is, people who really care about their Club (fans, not sponsors) have long since given up believing the figures.
It's simply default dishonesty that serves nobody really.
It needlessly erodes trust.

In theory there must be a "true" attendance figure available, counted for health & safety reasons.
If (God forbid) there was a fire at the Valley during a match, emergency services would need that information.
And I should think the Club would have to know it by Law.

So why not just release that number a day or two later?
Yes it would include staff and stewards I guess.
But it would still be much closer to reality than a figure that includes thousands of empty ST seats,
or even free ticket giveaways.

I'll admit I can't judge the Valley's attendance to the nearest percentage point based on a couple of seconds of TV footage.
But it did not look 57% full any more than it looked two thirds full.
Didn't look half full.

Granted I wasn't there. But since the official figure isn't worth squat, I didn't consider it worth splitting hairs over.
Unless you're saying the official number is in fact accurate, and that there were indeed over 15,000 fans inside the Valley?
