Three points, but simply not good enough. We can bank those points against the possibility of going down. But promotion chances? Forget it. Cambridge are crap.
I'm happy that the fans who went to the Valley today saw a win. But anything less than a thumping win against a poor Cambridge team means Charlton are nowhere near challenging for 6th place. I wanted to see 4-0 at least, to lend some credibility to the drubbing of Northampton. Instead I hear Cambridge were the width of a post away from equalising. On Christmas Day I popped in to see some old friends in Charlton on my way to see my old mum. A family who have been loyally following CAFC home and away for 20 years or more. They said they probably wouldn't be going to the Cambridge game. Basically they've lost the will to go anymore.
Good to get back to back wins but we need to remember what we have just beaten (not much). Northampton were tanked again today. Sunday v table toppers Wycombe will be the acid test for whether we have genuinely turned a corner, or had a statistical blip against two pub teams.
It's the latter. Cobblers - crap. Cambridge - crap. Burton - crap. Almost everyone is beating them. Means nothing.
