WE are a far bigger club than Wigan and a bigger club than Norwich but respect to Wigan for doing something we havent done since 1959 and stayed in the top flight for 8 seasons (9 next term) with 18,000 crowds (often boosted by 5,000 from away fans). Wigan have more than earned the right to be there kidda.
To be fair to Wigan, getting them kinda crowds, surrounded by the Manchester clubs, Liverpool & Everton, even the more established Bolton & well followed Burnley, is commendable. Add that it's a rugby town, and that Wigan had never been in the league till the 70's, and they are doing canny. Whelan can be an annoying bastard, but I have to respect his heart, and the fact that he made his and many other dreams happen with the club. Norwich, as a sidenote, are a great club, always have been, 20k plus in league 1 says it all.
Until his agent was on the radio there was talk it was a contract issue - more about length than money. God knows but it's all very strange. There is a meeting today with the board so I'd expect to hear something by tomorrow.
I guess length makes sense. Maybe he was promised 2-3 years, then offered 1-2. Makes sense, as I coan't see how he'd have fallen out with anyone at such a well run, family orientated club.
Although i've got nothing to shout about, I sometimes wish it was better if all women had this attitude Wigan have done better than Norwich for the last 10 years or whatever. Norwich are much the bigger club though.
Good player on his day and would definitely fit in with the way we have been playing under MON but, as the lads have said anything over 4mil would need to be looked at. If we do get him (I reckon that's a big if as well) then we should manage 2 plus seasons out of him easy. Think this is more likely him or his agent angling for more money bigger deal and, throwing in us as a possible get out to try and light a fire under the Norwich board sounds very much like the Davies thing at Bolton to me. Would have him but, think he'll stay at Norwich.
changing the subject a bit but how do you rate that zak whitbread fella? i know he's been unlucky with injuries but we've been linked with him on severel occasions
Murray, all we can do on here is speculate, and I recon we will be light years away from MoNs thinking, but keep slinging em in the ring, I dont know much about Zak the lad, but Im sure many folks on here will, and may well answer your question.
Favourites to sign him according to this snippet. http://news.footballbettingnews.co.uk/sunderland-made-favourites-to-land-holt-122818
Ive been saying for months now he would be a fantastic signing for us. Right attitude, from the north east, scores goals is a good target man for Sess to play off........ Would be the perfect singing, I can't see us getting anyone better. 15 goals last season in the EPL 2nd english man only to Wayne Rooney, he scored more goals than Judas Bent, Defoe, Carroll, Welbeck, Sturidge, Crouch etc... I know he is not the youngest but he would give us at least 2 decent season and bring Wickham on leaps and bounds. Holt would be great for us, we would need one more but he would be a decent signing. 4-5m and I think we would get him.
Hi mate. Zak was solid for us this season when he played. Formed a good partnership with Ayala and was probably our most complete centre half over the season. The downside is he is very injury prone and struggles to get a good run of games going before breaking down again. I'd personally avoid unless wages are low.
I personally wouldn't pay 4 million for him. He's 31. Would probably want a 3-4 year contract. Bad business in my opinion.
