They're just making jobs up for fun at the moment. Happy with the Royle appointment though. At the very least, he knows what he's talking about.
No the bottom of the article say the technical dissector will be announced shortly. I think Joe Royal is there as a bit of a mentor for Adams giving him advice on how to deal with situations that come up I would assume. I wonder if it's a full time role.
Don't forget technical director and director of football are different things though. Wouldn't be surprised if Royle and Adams will be together responsible for player recruitment.
But were not looking to appoint a director of football, i think Royals role as a consultant seem fairly clear, he'll be advising Adams, if he was a Director of Football he would essentially be Adams' boss
While I'm happy about 3 lungs, I'm getting a bit worried about NAs connections and credibility in the game. What prehistoric rock did the possibly find Joe Royle under? I don't think I've ever not wanted a season to get underway before, but I'm terrified by what August will bring. Just as well we are debt free, got a feeling these mistakes are going to cost a few pennies to correct later down the line.
While, like I said, I'm not too concerned by the appointment of Royle, I do wonder at what point the policy of only employing people who have previously been employed by the club was introduced?
That's what I was getting at. There are now so many titles I don't know which are real and not anymore.
Sorry both, I just read the article, as you say Hucks, we'll soon have more backroom staff than players!
With this appointment hopefully they'll focus on fitness levels and conditioning, the team was in quite good nick when Lambert was at the helm but I think our fitness levels suffered under Hughton, a lot of players performed like they'd had a night on the town.
The new management/ coaching team of Adams, Holt and Robson were all heavily involved with the youth set-up. Holt with the 12's - 16 age, Adams with the U18's and Robson the U21's. I wonder how deliberate and significant that is?
My arse is nippin' bigtime over this, seems to me that Royle has been brought in to hold Adams' hand. Considering he's been out of the game for so long, is he really going to be earning his wedge ? All ex Norwich and I wouldn't bet against the 'techinical director' being the same. This has got Delilah and ****-Jones written all over it, remember the 'dream team' of Rioch and Hamilton ?
Adams has got to hit the ground running and like most people in that position he wants people he knows and trust by his side. I don't think Royle's previous connection with City is as relevant as the fact that he was Adam's manager at Oldham for a long while. To me, these appointments have got Adams written all over it rather than Delia.
Yes, having Royle as a mentor is a very sensible move and it almost certainly represents the choice of Adams himself given their shared history. A wealth of experience to tap into but also someone that Adams can trust not to undermine him.
Giving the lack of experience on this "football panel", Royle is a great appointment. If we get the balance right, I think he'll act as a great mentor to Adams. I have to say, with these appointments, the Adams appointment is starting to make more sense to me.
I'm pleased with 3 lungs being appointed. Hopefully as others have said we can have excellent fitness as under Lambert we were forever scoring in the 90th min..... this last season we were forever not scoring at all
