pulis could do a good lob for them, they need to firm up at the back, and one things for sure, he is good at organising defences. could be what they need. also, do they still have alby, he could come in handy if they go a bit long ball?
When Atkins and Mcdermott were sacked last year it was a disgrace. The Holloway thing in contrast looks like a given as he has appeared pretty clueless but you cannot expect too much when they are such a weak squad. I think the very best managers woudl seriously struggle to keep them up and Pulis is not in that category. Outcome : Relegation!
to be honest, i think tony pulis is the only man (realistically) who will have any prayer of saving palace from the drop this season - and i'm not even sure he can achieve it!
Absolutely agree. For one thing, he knows the league inside out, and has seen how the opposition play and have developed over several years. That's a huge advantage to bring to the job. It would be the most sensible appointment they could make IMO.
Reading the papers this morning apparantly West Brom's Steve Clarke, Neil Warnock and Tony Pulis are being mentioned as early contenders! WTF Would Steve Clarke want to leave West Brom for a struggling Palace Team!
steve clarke?! what a weird link. warnock would do better than holloway imo but its bleedin' obvious that pulis is the only logical choice. i think i'm right in saying he's never been relegated as a manager - impressive record - but keeping palace up would be his best achievement.
with his gas connections? its not impossible but he looked a broken man yesterday - i think he needs a break from the game
I agree, he needs some time off I reckon, think this is probably the best thing for Palace all things considered. I'm not a massive fan of the guy, certainly don't dislike him but have found him more annoying as he gets older - his interview after the game on Monday was cringeworthy at times. That said I have to applaud his honesty about all this, and think he's got it about right and will no doubt learn from this experience in the future as I do think he's a decent manager with more to offer the game.
I don't really see the Holloway hype? His record with Palace wasn't particularly good and were quite lucky to get promoted last season after Dougie Freedman left them in a great position. Blackpool going up was a huge achievement and he does deserve credit for that but they still got relegated. I don't think he has achieved much in the game and his personality seems to have got him further in the game rather than his ability as a manager. I just think there is better managers in the Championship who deserve a go in the Prem than Holloway. If I were Palace I actually think Pulis should be top of their list, and if that fails I would look at Mick McCarthy. Simply because he can keep a team in the Premier League. Palace are not in the position to look for a glamorous coach who can get them playing out of defence, they need a strong character to grind some results out.
I have reviewed all the emoticons and there isn't one to summarise my response to this. That JWM must be an achievement
i reckon if mccarthy stayed in charge of ipswich for the next four years he probably would get them up. but he'll be ireland manager by the summer, so we'll never know. interesting suggestion by yellowlittle though. i wonder if the lure of the premier league would be greater than the ireland job for him?
And you know this for certain do you? He is contracted to Ipswich until the Summer of 2015 and as I understand it, ROI will have to fork out at least £1 Million in compo! As their whole budget is just E1 Million I cant honestly see it happening!
