Well said. It's not as simple as good or bad people - there is a grey area.

I will confess to a certain degree of hypocrisy on my part (ie reluctant when the initial rumours surfaced but supportive now) but will offer the following analogy:-

If your daughter brings home someone with a criminal record, do you disown her or give the guy the benefit of the doubt?

(Disclaimer: as long as it's not the woman beating Marlon King.)

Brixton/North please kill this thread! All been said before, repetitious and boring - all my fault, apologies for not realising that any 'bad boy ' discussion will now automatically revert to Barton...

These are exactly the types of threads that should be encouraged. Debate. Whats the point if there's always a cosy little consensus?

Has Barton done anything wrong recently?

I know he tweets a bit but is voicing an opinion something that people on forums should criticise?

Also, wasn't the cigar incident initiated by someone trying to set fire to Barton's jacket. I could be wrong on that point (heard it from a friend) but surely that counts as provocation. Over reaction definitely but it would lessen the crime.

There you go. You're pulling out all the stops to excuse Barton whereas if Diouf was our player you'd be doing the same. Can't you see it?

(A) When did I say I didn't want Barton at the Club? It was just Roller.
(B) Barton isn't the best player at the Club.

(Ok thats my last word on it. Sorry North!)

It's a healthy debate, why delete it?

If you did a straw poll of all our fans I'd say 85-90% are for Barton being at QPR while a similar percentage would be against Diouf.

Because it's all been said before on at least 2 other threads, one of which started by Roller was one of the best and most thought provoking threads I have seen. This is adding nothing new, but continue if you must, I will shut up now....no desire to limit free speech!

Ahhh the Diouf argument is off and running again is it... excellent.

All i will say this time is that i have been to Blackpool on many a stag do and i think its the perfect place for Diouf to spend a saturday night out - he will fit right in.

Well said Watford.

No, instead he did the leg breaking himself! And I do recall him stubbing a cigar out in a teenagers eye. Diouf's scumbag actions resulted in no-one getting hurt. Barton's on the other hand did. So maybe you're right: No comparison!

I do see, to a point, but consider Barton a less reprehensible character than the likes of Diouf or, more so, King.

I'm not so blinded that I don't have limits. The thought of signing King made me sick to the core whereas it was mere discontent at the prospect of Barton.

I do (naively perhaps) believe in rehabilitation and won't write off individuals completely without extreme provocation. I asked about Barton's recent behaviour to establish if he's seemingly getting better because his violent nature does seem to be behind him (barring the odd red mist on the park). If he'd just decked a granny outside Tesco last week then I'd be siding with you instead of offering him a clean slate.

A previous post highlighted Diouf's charity work which gives me some hope for him in the future but certainly not a mere 8 months after he was stooped over a man with a broken leg, shouting abuse.

I was very hesitant about joining this thread. My finger was poise above the send button for at least a minute before actually posting my initial comment. However, I decided to let Swords know that he wasn’t the only one who could see the hypocrisy.

I think we are all guilty of a level of hypocrisy here, some more extreme than others. Some of us recognise is, others appear not to. I stand firmly by my position that I don’t want Barton at my club, but, yes, I will cheer if he scores. I know that I expect too much from footballers and that I shouldn’t judge them by my standards, but I do and always will.

If we are prepared to allow Barton to reform his character, surely we should extend the same consideration to Diouf and King? The argument that he is now one of ours he is ok doesn’t wash with me. I won’t be turning a blind eye to any serious misdemeanour, I just pray that there aren’t any.

Anyway, I’m pulling out of this argument now, unless someone says something so ridiculous that I can’t help myself.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander Swords what are you on about ? You are talking rubbish I have three geese and Mr Mumbo eats only organic fruit bits and a nice salad whereas Peewee who is a gander by birth won't touch anything organic and loves pot noodle. My other goose is very quite but a straight meat eater loves a bit of mince .
So there's the proof we all like different things in fact I have just watched MR Mumbo make love to a small horse he is a one

You mean - If Barton had behaved in a scum-bag like manner the way that Diouf did, would people call him a scum-bag? Yes, and rightly so. But he didn't did he? His misbeghaviour has been different, therefore different standards can apply.

If I'd behaved like Diouf, I would justifiably be a scum-bag, but as I've not acted in the way he has publicly acted (without any form of contrition or apology, I have to add) then I'm completely different. Same with Joey. His actions have been bad in the past, related to issues with drink that he acknowledges and has been working to resolve. and his behaviour HAS improved over the past few years, unlike diouf.

If Diouf came to QPR, he'd still be a scum-bag because of his current behaviour and his attitude. So your post is completely irrelevant, and probably only posted in order to gain reaction. Well done.
