Yes it should. We agree to disagree on the pen. He exaggerated the contact but there was contact and it was on the top of his foot. That's the defender's fault imo. There is nothing to compel players to ride challenges when they are fouled - and he was fouled - particularly in the 92nd minute of WC finals game. The other incidents like the kick to the head are different questions requiring different answers and don't relate to each other.
All I will say is if that contact was enough for Robben to go down like he did then 100% pen. But the contact (which I still am not convinced there was any) Is enough for a penalty then we should be having 20 - 30 penalties every game.
"if that contact was enough for Robben to go down like he did then 100% pen." That's not what the rules say mate. It was a clumsy challenge. If you look you can clearly see the contact and his leg went across Robben too. Can see where you're coming from and judging by media reaction I'm in the minority but that's what opinions are about.
Oh but it is the rules. There is contact in every challenge, but there is not a foul given every time. Direct free kick offences[edit] A direct free kick is awarded when a player commits any of the following in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force: Kicks or attempts to kick an opponent Trips or attempts to trip an opponent Jumps at an opponent Charges an opponent Strikes or attempts to strike an opponent Pushes an opponent Tackles an opponent The following happens 20 30 times a game. are fouls given I dont think so. I can see why you believe it was a pen. But if we give pens for that then every pull of a shirt - pen. so why dont they give them. As i said no one will convince me that Robben didnt cheat to get Holand through. I think we will have to agree to disagree on this. By the way I am a qualified referee( not the best mind you)
You should be at the World Cup then But, back to the tackle, if that warrants a penalty, I expect to see 2-3 penalties per game from now on. Still can't believe it was given.
