Tried all your suggestions and didn't get anywhere bar 'DNS server not responding error'.I went online through my phone and read a few other suggestions (your advise was there) so found out it was a Firewall problem.Both Microsoft Essentials and MacAfee were running(don't know how MacAfee was running thought I got rid of that) and were corrupting each other so uninstalled MacAfee and bingo lappy back working.
