Protocol? Any claim made to ref has to be passed to 4th official.

Because it's procedure to report to him that an allegation had been made

    refs report.

    firmino called.holgate a....

not holgate reported to me that.... but I didn't hear..

4th official holgate was racially abused not ref reported x

firmino guilty before he even responds or tapes reviewed?

We know full well what was said right up to one second prior to the jaw drop.

it's purely a case of was it recorded and did another camera angle from behind goal record video of the moment as stills exist
... by the fa won't seek evidence now.

If he heard racist comments would he need to go to the 4th official?

If the tape exists....itll be a bit embarrassing for the ref if it shows firmino using a racist word recognizable enough to an English speaking player 4 foot away that the referee who is so close he's touching firmino later tells Holgate "I didn't hear".

Recording didn't happen anyone? Goes to panel to watch videos and have to come to unanimous conclusion something was said...they can't unless sky has an angle they didn't show....no further action.

All to protect a useless ref? ....if something was said of course.

Takes a bit longer to type out a 136 page report. Or however many it was.

At least if this one rumbles on no-one will have to worry about coining an appropriate something-gate epithet.

He would be required to show Firmino a red card first

    yes.

they have to get the story straight.

for all we know it was 4th official that said take no action and kick this upstairs.

Imo from here firmino is in for 6 match ban and holgate nothing. big lesson. lay down and play act.... never get involved even if you just call them a son of a white in Portuguese you are still a racist ;)

I want to see full transcript of each sides statements. what did firmino say right after puta. no camera angle shows it.

I had assumed that it would be a red but did not know about having to report an allegation. Certainly backs the theory that the refs report can only contain that an allegation was made but the ref did not hear it. Wonder if the refs report will also mention holgate pulling the ref back (in what i think was an attempt to get past him)?

    no he wouldnt...

he can write it in report and send it upstairs.

I want to see that report as I'm sure the description of the assault on firmino must be interesting too. " player fell over a barrier and he got mad then racially abused a nice young man"

I'm going to assume that holgate gets nothing and ref having to stop firmino hitting holgate is an aggregating factor in hate crime so

    8 matches? 10?

keep adding it up cos fa need to help spurs out here.

I thought if the ref heard it he would have to act on it there an then, although he clearly saw the reckless and dangerous foul on bobby and did feck all about it so who knows?

Only if he claims not to have heard the comments himself. He can't say he heard abusive comments then left Firmino on the pitch.

Im interested to see what punishment Holgate will receive. Should have been off for the incident, but then man handled the ref too. Disgusting behaviour on both

3 for violent conduct (standard punishment)
4 for homophobic comments on social media (standard punishment)
5 for false allegation of racism? (FA makes this part up as they go along)
