The appointment of a new manager is exciting but let's get this into context and reality for a moment. Let's not let short-term delirium and adrenalin cloud our perspective. We are facing our 5th successive relegation battle, that's 5 seasons in a row where we've been in or around the relegation spots. In that time we've gone from mid-Championship to the bottom of the bottom division, we've had 4 managers, Paul Sturrock, Paul Mariner, Peter Reid and Carl Fletcher. None of these managers have been able to arrest the slide even momentarily.

I've pointed out before that the problems at Argyle are not linked to the failings of one man, the manager, they are a symptom of a total lack of professionalism and quality set up, the kind of technical foundations that exist at other clubs and have to exist if you are going to compete as a professional football club. We need up to date training facilities, technical specialists, sports scientists, defensive coaches, attacking coaches, tactical specialists, advisors, scouting network, nutritionists, fitness experts, physiotherapists, video analysts etc etc.

Rather than looking for what John Sheridan is going to be like, I'll be looking to see who and what he is going to bring with him because if he doesn't plug at least 3/4 of the holes referred to above then this club is going down and down and down.
 
Would be nice DS but we don't have that sort of cash to layout at the moment...maybe a couple clubs in L1, perhaps several in the CCC have all those luxuries. Feel sure he will bring his own coaches etc but on a much smaller scale.
 
Sounds good DS,but we haven't got that sought of dosh anymore........Fitness and a good scouting set up would be a start .......at present an attacking coach would be redundant....no one to coach at present.
 
Run before you can walk springs to mind. I don't deny that all of the things you mention would be present in an ideal world but Argyle is far from an ideal world. To some extent we are lucky to be even changing managers even if everyone thought it essential with the exception of notdistant that is.

All we can hope for this season now is survival once again. I have no great expectations beyond that. If Sheridan can achieve that then job done in season one. I think he will have his own buddies to bring in for the backroom as well and we have to hope they are better than the ones we currently have. Lets face it they haven't got a lot to beat though. Sheridan might be a fitness type manager and he may well instill certain things in the players where other things on your list might be achieved or bettered. As for state of the art training facilities well it ain't happening anytime soon so he will have to live with what is there now. Lets see what he can do first before everyone goes off half cocked demanding the world which Brent is not going to provide. I think a bit of people power helped to get rid of Fletcher but I don't think all the pressure in the world will make Brent splash any real cash. As we don't have a queue of people waiting to take over then we are stuck with that like it or not.

By the way I also don't think there is a huge inrush of euphoria on the part of the supporters either. It is just a nod of the head that the right thing has been done manager wise and nobody is getting carried away with some idea we are suddenly going to run up the league.

LOL, We will never have any of the facilities or any sports scientists ect.. We are living in the dark ages at PAFC.

Sheridan will have to clear the dog carp up from the training ground first then try and train some of the carp.. Chadwick comes to mind!!
