He's a brilliant little player, but i tend to dismiss any transfer rumours that come our way in regards to midfielders. We've got more than 'enough' of them, especially with Gutierrez signing another contract. Unless we were planning on offloading some, such as Guthrie, Smith, Lua Lua and Gosling, etc... I cant see us getting another one.

Theres competition for places and then theres overcrowding, which will have the exact opposite effect on morale for the squad. Not saying he's better or worse than certain players in the squad.

Hoilett might be a good player but surely if he signed for Newcastle or Tottenham he would be in direct competition with Van Der Vaart or Ben Arfa, now is he really going to displace either of them.

Direct compo for Lennon/Obertan really. Although he can play as a 2nd striker, defo a winger/right foward first and foremost. We need a back up right winger really depending on how you view Obertan.

Well whenever I've seen him he's been behind the striker, which is ya Ben Arfa and Hoilett type of player. Still could be a good squad player.

You only have to look to the recent game against us, played right side of a front three with Olsson left and the Yak through the middle. To be fair you're halfway between a winger and second striker in that kind of formation anyway. I think he is so good there is no way he'd come to a club like us and play 2nd fiddle. He is one of the hottest young properties in the league. To be honest I think we might struggle to get him at all. In our favour would be our progress this year and him not being dumped in the reserves or farmed out on loan as he would be at Spurs.

Big fan of Hoillett. I think if we were to be able to compete in Europe then a winger is one of 5 players we need.

Agreed. I think we should buy a couple of quality wingers for competition.

Ohhhhh Canadaaa :D

Linked through the BBC drivel and gossip page, so it's probably the furthest thing possible from the truth, but still, I'm mightily ****ing pleased. Been keeping tabs on him since he moved to England and he's just the kind of player we've been signing all summer. He can probably speak/understand french too (Unfortunately it's probably horrible Quebecois French)

I'd be over the moon if the toon signed one of the most promising young canucks in a while

EDIT: god dammit i got excited and didn't check if anyone else had started a thread about it yet

sssoooororrrryyyyyyy

I'll second that! ;)

I will third this for sure.

I doubt anyone's going to post in my horrible thread but I made the point that he's Canadian so he'll be able to at least understand the French players, as well as already having fluent English.

So let's put this all together.... Young, great potential, no language/culture barrier, contract running out, we're currently an amazingly attractive club... Massive sell-on value if anything goes wrong

I'm absolutely positive that he's a top target of Graham Carr

No chance would he be a squad player. He's good enough to be our best winger (Assuming we play HBA in the middle!) I like the sound of having Jonas and Hoillett, with Obertan and Marv backing up!

IMO Hoillett is a class act. Better than Obertan and more of a threat than Jonas. Can't really say on Marveaux as I haven't seen enough of him yet.

As a English speaking Canadian, I have a grasp of French, but not a great one. I can understand a little, but not hold down a proper conversation in French. I somehow think Hoilett may be in the same boat, seeing as he comes from Brampton, Ontario - not exactly a hotbed for French speakers.

For the record, Quebecois French may not be for everyone. That it is because it's 'old World French', as it's the French that was spoken when the 'new World' was settled. Thus, it hasn't moved on in the same way, as the French spoke in France.

In conclusion, yes, Hoilett would be a great signing! :)
