I'd rather none of them be there PS - so long as Kelly, Carroll and Henderson didn't have to go to the olympics instead
Liverpool, England, Hodgson and Rodgers' needs are all fairly similar at this point in time. All will be expected to deliver very quickly, and play attractive football just as quickly. Realistically they will need a little bit of time to do that. The answer for both teams and both managers is to keep clean sheets, and get the fans to believe that good football will follow. I'm sure Hodgson has no interest in favouring a particular club, but he is probably helping BR out by having so many of your players prepare to play the way he'll have them playing. Making them unavailable for the Olympics is an added bonus. Make no mistake, I disagree with at least two of the selections, but whether I agree with them or not I think they're a good thing for LFC.
i think it is rather a good point about the olympics.. at least we are spared that. My point is hodgson is picking our lads for no good reason so the only reason can be spite cos he knows he's taken the kings shilling for this tournament only and wants to take a few more down in flames with him... crazy england appointment and i hope we jsut ge tout of the group.... and rooney gets sent off in the QF so we have the right guy to blame again
Do people expect Hodgsons England team to play attractive football? Ever? winning football maybe...but attractive footy...don't hold your breath. And I hope to god the bit about Hodgson preparing LFC players to play the way Rodgers does was a thinly veiled wind up attempt As for the Reds players I couldn't give a **** about the media reaction to be honest. If we do well in the tournament it will undoubtedly be attributed to Terry, Rooney and Cole Englands only world class players (TalkShites favourite saying) and if they **** it up as usual it'll be down to taking Downing and Henderson and daring to have "a geezer from ap norff" as captain of Londons national team As for Henderson he hasn't had a sparkling season but its reasonable to suggest that a lad who's been u21 captain should progress to the first team. We want the new generation of young England players to progress so surely this will encourage those other young England boys to look at JH and say...if I put in the sort of effort he does (which by all accounts he does work extremely hard) then I will be rewarded too. No bad thing in my book.
england will put 10men behind the ball and this will suit terry as we will play really deep... we saw v belgium theres so much work to go do to become the next greece, belgium were walking through us even with the deep line. I can't get why if the man picked johnson and jones at RB then went ahead and picked a cb to replace barry, then henderson to replace lampard (thus leaving himself well short in midfield) then goes and picks a young man not even first choice sometimes at u21 over more senior options.... where's jones going to play CM like he did (average at best) for utd? Its going to be a 10 men behind the ball and blame "mandy" for it effort from the press..... if hodgson doesn't ge tthe sack they'll attack LFC players and then save the ire for hodgson in the wc qualifiers.
I can't see Hodgeson starting with Henderson, Downing or Kelly anyway so how would they blame Liverpool? The blame will most likely lay on the injury problems, even the vultures of the press are already recognizing that we are doomed due to men down.
For those of us happy that at least this means that Kelly/Hendo/Carroll wont be going to the Olympics, Bellamy has now said that he will..... great.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18320907
I have to say, the idea that Woy would pick LFC players deliberately to spite us if (when) he fails seems a little paranoid to me. I do think the press, and the crowd, will slate us no matter what happens though. Did anyone notice the decidedly lukewarm reception to Gerrard being named motm last week?
nah... rio ferdinand is already using the fact that kelly got called up to have a go... the rest of mancunia will be having a go too. the fact is whether or not our guys start (aside from gerrard) they'll be blamed for just being there.
Spot on mito. And the same mancs that said we treated him badly during his few months at LFC are now slagging him bigtime and telling us what a **** manager he is.
It wasn't. Rodgers was fantastic for us at the end, but at the beginning he had us playing terrible, negative stuff. And I want to go out of my way to make clear that I'm not having a go at him for that: he had absolutely no choice. He inherited a team which had played hoofball under Aidy Boothroyd and been involved in a lot of high scoring games (we score three, they score four). He somehow had to teach us how to play passing football while simultaneously sorting out the defence, getting some midfield balance and not losing football matches. If Hodgson relentlessly drills the basics into the likes of Henderson, Kelly, Johnson and Downing, I think that will help BR turn things around more quickly. And if Roy makes himself look like a bad manager in the process, surely you lot would be laughing all the way? The above was all serious, but I will finish with something that could be considered provocative (with a serious undertone). Liverpool fans have got every right to criticise Hodgson, but please consider calling him something other than "Woy", for what I hope would be obvious reasons.
