I honestly believe that Roy Hodgson is the best possible manager available. The FA would have had to pay Spurs around £10 Million in compo just to have harry walk through their door. The other big thing is the new excellence centre at Burton. Roy is an old school track-suit manager and he will be tasked with developing and overseeing the new crop of talented young kids coming through. I don't think Harry is tactically as good a coach as Roy!
international football is very tactical. redknapp would be found wanting against anybody in the top 20 in the world. hodgson won't - as i say, he'll make us hard to beat. negative yes, but its more likely to get results at that level
If harry got the job he is bound to bring in Joe Jordan and Kevin Bond! Mind you I suppose that's the closest connection you would ever get to the England team!
I don't believe 'Arry was ever seriously in contention as far as the FA were concerned. Not because of money, but because 'Arry has too much baggage attached. In all the time this saga has been running, 'Arry has never really been more than the media's favoured candidate. People seem to think he was the fans' favourite too, but that has never been more than an assumption on the part of the pro-'Arry lobby. Like jwm, I think Hodgson is an excellent choice. He may have short term problems dealing with the inflated egos in the current England dressing room, but there is a solution that can be quickly applied once the Euros are over, namely get shot of the inflated egos and start building towards the next World Cup with, to coin a phrase "young and hungry" players who want to play for their country and will play for Hodgson. For the Euros I think Hodgson can take a leaf from di Matteo's book at Chelsea and say to the "senior" players: "OK, you wanted Capello out; you've got your way. Now you'd better put up or shut up and deliver on the pitch".
