Given that Cahill's injury left the manager in a no-win situation I very much doubt anyone would be up to the job. Less than a month ago Ferguson gave an interview to MUTV where he said Rio could not handle tournament football anymore. Kelly was on stand-by, Rio wasn't. A player got injured so he was called up, it is hardly a shocker! Richards was left out because he doesn't defend well, a slight hinderance given that his position is in the defence.
You will find that Rio has made himself available for a call to the squad. That is why there has been and still is an almighty row about it. Since when has any national manager listened to the club managers about the fitness of their players? the likes of Wenger and Ferguson are always ignored when they make comments. Their players are always not fit enough for this match or that match or that tournament. Would Fergie go out of his way to help England or would he prefer to save his players for United? Every one who has commented on it so far (with a few exceptions like Ericson) has said that Ferdinand could have played in the tournament. No one believes he is too old or not good enough. The real shocker here is that Ferdinanad seemed to have been penalised because his brother allegedly suffered racial abuse.
Fergie said that he wasn't sure if Rio could play every single game, not that he couldn't play most of the games, but he also said that he thought Rio should definitely be in the squad.
Well tough titty, it's not up to Purpleface. Why take a player that is not fit and is frankly totally over rated anyway. Throw in the dope scandal and I agree completely with Roy Hodgson.
So drop Rio because you feel he's overrated and because of the drugs test issue, but take Terry the thug who is fast heading down hill and has been accused of making a racist comment which sees him in court after the Euro's. Great reasoning.
Nope, I would not have taken Terry either as he is an obnoxious self centred twat. And that's his good points.
I don't get the "not fit" argument, the guy has only played half a dozen games less than Terry this season, and Kelly has been plagued with injuries but he still managed to get picked. And what has the drugs test got to do with it? If things like that were behind the decision then Terry is going to court over a racism charge, he also got sent off in his last high pressure game for an absolutely stupid knee off the ball and he even tried to undermine the England manager when he was not captain at the last tournament, should that not all be considered then?
Quoted - "You play something like a game every four days. Rio Ferdinand couldn't do that" (http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...rdinand-wont-last-euro-2012-pace-7742406.html). And on Ferdinand going - quoted - "He has done fantastic this season, There was a period where I played him in three games in seven days from the end of January but apart from that it has been every seven days. “He has coped very well and has had a fantastic season. “I don’t know if Roy’s thinking about the situation because I haven’t spoken to him but experience is going to be important in the European Championships. “I think Phil Jones and Chris Smalling should go but they have not played a lot of football this season in terms of centre-back play, so you go back to what you are left with. “You have John Terry and Rio Ferdinand and Gary Cahill. Then you have Jones and Smalling. “There is not a lot after that.” It is hardly his full support- he's saying there isn't much choice (left out Jagielka and Cahill) and that experience is important, not saying Roy must take him.
Do you think his strange opinion that Jones and Smalling are better than Lescott was more wind up than reality?
I'll be honest I would not select Terry based on his attitude and superiority complex. The fact that he has not been found guilty should not affect his selection. If he is found guilty then I will lay in to him. Talking about indiscretions though someone who SHOULD NOT be there is Gerrard. An absolute thug who was laughably found not guilty. In the last game his shocking lunge was a disgrace as well.
To be fair both Terry and Ferdinand would not of been in my original team, but as soon as Smalling was ruled out (even more so once Cahill was ruled out) I thought not calling up Rio was just a strange decision.
Lescott and Jagielka were my picks to start together, with Cahill and Smalling as backups, I just think that pairing performed excellently together against Spain under constant pressure and deserved to be first choice.
Hodgson tried yesterday (9 June) to explain his decision on Ferdinand. He said that Ferdinand was "too good" to be taken to the Euros. That Ferdinand would be asked to sit on the bench most of the time. Is this credible? If you have pretensions of doing well in a tournament, don't you bring your very best players and clearly some very good ones will be used as back up? If a first team player gets injured you have one of an equivalent quality to replace him. Isnt this the best scenario? And if Ferdinand is happy with going under these circumstances what 's the problem then? And why didn't He ring Ferdinand and explain this to him rather wait for several days to explain in an interview ? is it because it does not ring at all true or credible?
The guy is a ****ing joke, look what he had to say about England's players performing in the Euros: So basically what he's saying is that if England go out its all the players fault and **** all to do with him. He's such a negative self centred twat its unbelievable and people still had the ****ing cheek to tell us Liverpool fans that this **** should've been given more time. This **** will look to blame everyone bar himself, he'll blame the England fans, the media and the players and carry on this line of thinking that the poor performances were nothing at all to do with him. I bet if England do well he won't be letting the players take all the credit, he'll be blowing his own trumpet all the way to Brazil 2014. And he's so negative he's the only manager since 1966 that has managed to make England fans feel as if getting out of the group will be a brilliant tournament for England.
Hodgson. Terry threatened to rape my wife and stab all the black people in the world if he didnt get in the team, when Ashley Cole came over to me buzzing like he had a phone up his arse and said 'yo blud, me Tezza n rest of us chav lads aint playing no fuzbol if dat Rio gets picked like' I had little choice.
I guess you are now finally understanding what the Liverpool fans had to put up with when Hodgson was in charge there, i.e. he made some terrible decisions and offered some dire excuses for those decisions! He was rightly criticised and unliked by Liverpool fans...yet the majority of opposition fans (maybe you were amongst those) slated Liverpool fans for being too critical and mocked them!!! I guess people are now finally seeing Hodgson and his managerial qualities are not that good! As a disclaimer I would like to point out that England may well have a good tournament, however, that will probably be more down to things that are out of his control rather than being due to his input!
So what your saying is, if Hodgson's England team fail then its proof that he wasn't good enough for Liverpool, but if he succeeds (which I personally don't think he will with this team) then it's all down to luck and nothing to do with his managerial ability?
