Would any of you leave your partner/wife whatever tag they given nowadays....if they were hoarders? Like clinical? Because it's a mental problem when some folk get the bug.

Nah I wouldn't leave a partner with a hoarding problem or OCD for that matter but it's bloody tough living with someone like that. Really bloody tough.

Yes. I've got enough of my own mental problems without having to deal with some ****er elses.

Of course I did, but obviously all that came out of my mouth was 'It's alright Nana, I'm not even bothered, they were just hanging up there and I probably would never have worn them'. She's been amazing to me, I doubt I'd ever get really pissed off at her, no matter what she does.

Exactly. It's a tough gig being a bloke at times. If it had been my cousins jeans, she would have let rip at Nana, I know what she's like.

I ask coz I did it once and it ****ed me up mentally. My eldest sons mother had a bad bad case of it....still has...she can make gold look like a piece of turd.

She made both my houses look like Aladdins ****ing cave....I think it's just another branch of depression. Weird thing is she's clean in herself...as in not scruffy or anything....got a desk job, pretty normal until your tap into her head.

Had to get the third house on my tod... couldn't do that again!

My mum chucked away a load Arsenal programmes that I had from the late 80's early 90's once in a mass clear out when I'd moved out. She chucked out a signed programme that I had from a Utd game that had. Tony Adams, David O'Leary, Mickey Thomas, David Rocastle, Paul Merson, Lee Dixon, Alan Smith, Brian McClair and Mark Hughes signatures on it. I was gutted when I found out.

There was nothing I could say because (1) It was my Mum (2) I'd moved out (3) She'd been on at me for yonks to clear out my old stuff

It's definitely a mental illness and it also had a huge impact on my mental health too.
We couldn't have mates round at the time as it had gotten that bad and she was also hugely embarrassed of it.
It was a shame as she was a great person but it did cause a lot of arguments at the time and looking back I wish that I had a bit more patience.

Going back to the question I don't think I could start to date someone like that again if I knew they had such a problem from the start but if they developed the problem during the relationship then I couldn't end it.

Hoarding is a classic sign of OCD. The compulsion usually stems from an irrational fear that something bad will happen if they chuck it out. It’s the same Illness that causes people
to have certain behaviours that are locked into routine or ritual.

I used to work with a bloke who had really bad OCD. He described it to me as being like a superstition that had got totally out of control. So that he had to do certain things like walk through a doorway a certain way, not pick up a newspaper before 11am, wear red socks on a Wednesday and on and on. Little rituals that he dare not subvert in case something bad happened.

It ended up totally spiralling out of control and ruining his life. Terrible illness really.

It's a dreadful illness. My Nan was absolutely crippled by it for most of her life.
Among other things she would have to check each wall socket, light switch and anything electrical, turning them on and the off again a certain amount of times.
This would start at around 10pm and she'd still be checking them at 3am. The effect it had on her immediate family was also catastrophic and unfortunately because it was 20 or more years ago it never got properly diagnosed.

A lot of people confuse a habit with OCD but the difference is enormous.

Have to backtrack on that a bit, I have someone close to me that has anxiety and OCD and it's not an easy thing to deal with. He's still a dick though. ****er makes me talk him down now and then.

I've got a lack of understanding around this because it's not something I've ever had to deal with. That bit I highlighted, why didn't you just tidy up so you could have people round?
