That twat should hang his head in shame! I know it was the then owners fault for signing him up on those wages but if this twat had any shame at all he would just terminate his contract with pompey now and walk away!

agree, totally ridiculous. it's not as if they have just been relegated from the premiership when you would expect some players to be on a good screw. they were in trouble last season and seemingly did nothing to decrease their salaries or offload those costing too much. the club, by which i mean the owners, deserve all they get, but as usual those that will suffer the most will be the fans who will end up with no club to support ( unless they do the worst case scenario and switch allegiance to saints ). pompys troubles have been ongoing for several years now, so how has it been allowed to reach this situation.
All the backroom staff will lose their jobs and all the local businesses that will suffer without the football club all due to player's greed and owner incompetence! Before you bring it up (as i'm sure you will) when we went into CVA in the last decade it was a horrible time and a black stain forever in the history of ITFC. Local businesses had to accept 5p in the pound to help us stay alive due to hubris from Sheepshanks and us fans who must take some of the blame. Sheepy was living the dream and we egged him on before the collapse that no one envisaged. It will be a very dsad day for English football if pompey goes bust and ceases to exist. As always it will be the poor fans that will be left in the **** and helpless to prevent the inevitable.

Glad to see the legend is still in good shape!
Got a friend who has been at uni in Portsmouth for last three years who said the rivalry between Portsmouth and Southampton is rather intense and goes beyond football so I think fans changing their allegiance to Southampton is v unlikely unless they're rather fickle in which case they would have probably switched allegiances since Southampton got promoted and Portsmouth got relegated from the Championship.
A cautionary tale methinks. This is why we aren't signing big names on huge wages.

Seriously though, I think this could be curtains, which is a shame, they are a grand old club. It could have been us a couple of times and it shows why not just anybody should be able to own a football club. In lots of ways football clubs belong to the fans who are the long term custodians of the traditions and history of a football club.

The guilt lies with those who still think that what Portsmouth achieved all those years ago was something worthy. It was just a parable of the excesses of football and its profound believe that success is all that counts.
What is disgusting about this is that Pompey were already in trouble before bringing in players like Liam Lawrence and David Norris on big wages.
Ben Haim's £36k is actually more comprehensible because that would presumably be a contract from the Premier League.
When we tried to renew Norris's contract though (and I'm not sorry he went) and Pompey offered a better package - that is just scandalous. It was scandalous at the time and you have to ask questions of the governing bodies who allowed the registrations.

What annoys me the most with Rangers is they expect to start their newco club in the SPL with all their old players and the punishments, such as the transfer embargo, wiped. Despite messing up badly they expect to start again where they were before without their debt.

Dazz - there's a good Daily Mail article where Ben Haim talks about his motives. He says he would be prepared to help the club, but not while the administrators are helping themselves to a £600k fee.
i think i'm right in saying that the deadline for new team applications has been missed now so if/when pompey go under, they won't even be able to compete in a league next season - a whole year without football in the city of portsmouth! that's terrible.

Apparently Ben Haim is refusing to budge with regards to his wage but a couple of players are talking to other clubs about a potential move. Ben Haim is a disgrace, on too much mmoney for a League 1 club who are in trouble financially. He knows he wouldn't be able to get that sort of wage elsewhere (unless you're QPR or West Ham) so he's staying put.
what i don't understand is that the player can't win on this.
either he forfeits his ludicrous wages and finds a new club or his club goes bust, he is made unemployed, loses his ludicrous wages and finds another club!
he can't win either way - he'll lose out on the vast majority of his money so he may as well be a man about it and walk away, giving at least some hope to thousands and thousands of people that THEIR club might survive.
