Well done Rovers, to put the fourth placed team to the sword at their place in that fashion was tremendous.
Because of Champions League/Europa League qualifications, there's pretty much always something to play for the top 8 of the Premier League, so the excitement and momentum of the league carries on to the end. In the NRL/super league, if one team is dominant points wise at the top for the last months, there's not too much to play for, for the teams not fighting relegation... The play off system keeps the league alive and the fans involved and interested. Plus the finals at old Trafford bring in big crowds. It just works.
The team finishing top being the Champions works in every league in the major sports. But in RL with only 12 teams in it and now no relegation they have to find an artificial way of maintaining interest.
Yes, that's what I wrote. Similar to the Super Bowl, isn't it, where a wild card team or a team not winning their nfl league can win the superbowl, so you're incorrect in your first sentence.
My first sentence regarding major sports was correct. Sports played predominantly in one country compared to the world wide sport of football are not major sports.
And how many countries have gridiron leagues, baseball leagues compared to association football? Name the champions in those sports in Europe, South America , Asia…
Union St Gilloise finished 7 points clear of Anderlecht in second place and 19 points clear of Club Bruges last season Club Bruges are the Belgium champions .
Lot’s of countries do, even more have ice hockey and basketball leagues. You couldn’t name the association football champions in South America or Asia without looking it up, so that’s hardly a measure of what constitutes a major sport.
You couldn’t name the gridiron champions or baseball ones in South America or Europe or Asia without looking them up. Or say which countries in those places have leagues in those sports.
