When I was studying design at uni way back in the 1980s we had an exchange programme with a German university. Every time one of them was in my room and saw my Bela Lugosi’s Dead poster with ‘bauhaus’ written on it in the original German font they would get very excitable and want to discuss Gropius etc. Every. Single. Time. It must have been later that goth took off in Germany ‘cos none of them had ever heard of Danny Ash and the rest. Actually true story. Which is not to suggest that yours isn’t...
Albert Speer designed buildings with what they would look like in millenia to come, like Greek and Roman ruins. Works for marble and stone and the Roman concrete but wouldn't for modern concrete ones.
Is Huddersfield a rugby 'hotbed' I wonder? Always got the impression it was just another M62 town that our local rugby teams measure themselves against
It, and not the world capital of rugby league, Hull was where it was invented. Never had a crowd there anywhere near Huddersfield's football club's record one of 68,000.
Everytime I fly to Manchester, en route to 'Ull, there used to be a train exchange (15 minute wait) @ 'Udders station. Shared a few cigs with 'Arold I 'ave. Someone must have nicked his pipe ? Good view of their stadium on that train journey. Looks impressive - but never been to the new one. please log in to view this image
The new one is, like so many modern stadiums, soulless. Been to the old one a few times but not when there were crowds like this - please log in to view this image
Only ever been there once, when I was living in Leeds. A pre-season game between 'Udders and Man Utd. Must have been about 400 in the crowd. Even so, a barney broke out & the cops did their bit - South Yorks style edit: 5 year old's spelling error corrected.
Clearly not the hoi polloi attending the match with all those chauffer driven vehicles badly parked up front. Mods - please delete these class driven posts.
