I know and I was waiting for that answer. It doesn't make sense but nevertheless it is still true. Can you explain it ? Maybe I'm mixing with the wrong people ? I wonder if this is the same in Leeds ? do the Rhino's gates suffer when the football is doing well ?
I'm surprised you've never met Nick Barmby. I don't post on Twitter much nowadays, but as my Twitter feed was almost all about City, almost all my followers are City fans. A great many state Hull City/Hull FC or Hull City/Hull KR in their bios (mainly Hull KR). There's certainly plenty who support both sports and many who are City fans, even if there are a lot of Liverpool supporting inadequates as well. If I was a Hull FC fan reading this, I'd be having a wry smile at how much my minority sport continues to get under some City fans skin.
Being a boring subject doesn't make it less true. I used to sponsor City in a small way years ago when we were down in the dumps, we had crowds of around 3,000 and money was tight. That's why I sponsored the club in the small way I could, I thought it helped and I was ( still am) a supporter. What angered me was receiving a call from the commercial department at Fc asking me to switch my sponsorship to them. Because they were 'Hull's premier club' they said they offered better value, they had more media coverage and they would offer me a free day out for me and my family to sample the delights of a day watching rugby league. They contacted every one of City's sponsors in the same way. They could have put City out of business at that time if their recruitment drive had of been successful. As for making a joke of it all this. Are you not aware of the world of fanzines ? I could fill another 18 pages and more on this forum with the fun we had with them over the years. To be fair Fc fans eventually copied the football fanzine idea themselves and brought one out of their own and gave us as much back. Not to mention the fun we had in the letters pages of the HDM at the time. Ignorant on this subject I am not.
May not live in Hull but it's impossible not to notice it whenever I'm there. Getting laughed at by tossers in rugby/other football shirts walking down Anlaby Road after a defeat, shouts of come on whoever we're playing beforehand. Indeed I even have one in the family, an uncle who is Rovers and TWS, although he's disowned his whole family now, but that's another story. Even as a lad I couldn't understand how he could be so anti City when he came from Hull
I have met Nick Barmby several times and I knew his father for over 40 years. I have never heard Nick referred to as a Hull City fan, I know he is, in the local press but they always mentioned that he was an 'avid FC fan'. Which backs up my case a little.
The FC fanzine run by Karl Hutchinson whose tagline was “ Hull FC and Leeds United - pride of Yorkshire” The Karl Hutchinson who was interviewed in a pub when the KC was announced and said it would be a white elephant as 15,000 would be a big enough stadium for Hull as that was big enough for rugby and the only way it would ever be full for football was if Leeds United played their home games there. Listening to idiots like him and Jim Gardner was why the KC was so badly designed regarding segregation.
I know plenty of FC fans both family, friends and associates. Lot of them good people. Only one supports City as well as FC. The rest, and this is plenty, support clubs from other Cities but always a top team. I genuinely am lost as to why this happens.
This isn't just about FC, it's about City and Rugby League in general. Some of you have had bad experiences with rugby fans and look at all of them the same way. I've said on here numerous times i'm a City fan and a Rovers fan, hence my name. So can anyone on here doubt that i'm a committed City fan just because I follow Rovers as well? I just don't get this anti rugby bias but it's always being talked about on here, a Hull City board. If you don't like rugby don't talk about it.
A lot of people tell us about things they don’t like on here. And there are a lot of non Hull City related posts on this Hull City board.
I'd argue it's more about a proportion of Hull FC fans than it is about the sport in general. In my experience, and a sweeping generalisation but Rovers fans tend to enjoy their chosen sport for what it is, whereas FC fans seem to be trying to fill a void in their lives and a need to latch on to perceived 'success' in a similar way to those that pick a prem club, often these are the same people.
I have a high embarrassment threshold, a high boredom threshold, but a lower self-discipline threshold. However I have just enough self-discipline to avoid threads on here that would bore me, 'some' should perhaps try avoiding threads that bore them.
Look Ben. If you aren’t going to accept repetitive moaning then you are going to get a slab of self-aggrandisement. You know the rules.
If that's the case why do some people on here seem to worry that they are somehow rivals to us ? Maybe it's a generational thing but I was born in Hull and have lived here most of my life and I just don't care that much about rugby or Hull FC (Not sure why it's only a Hull FC thing either) it does come across as a bit pathetic to have threads on here about them
