A judicious and insightful contribution to the debate on gay marriage COL. I was waiting for your input on this thread and I must say, you've not disappointed :emoticon-0114-dull:

The Tory boys are flocking to this thread now like moths to a flame. I fear this debate is going to degenerate from here on in

I'm sorry but you just can't claim to know what someone else is feeling! Again, why would he hold a half hour private meeting with him if he couldn't bare to look at him?

John Maxwell whose 15 year old son was killed that day has forgiven his killers. He has met with Gerry Adams so that pores cold water on Chaz' theory that anyone meeting him is only doing so because they're "forced" to do so. It seems to me that you want Prince Charles to feel what YOU want him to feel when in reality you simply do not know what the man is feeling.

How did Tony Blair feel when he was kissing Gaddafi in a tent in the desert for example?

Whichever way Stan tells me to

Sounds like Dr WATSon may be right

Swords, this what I understand...this is what I emphathise with...ay natural human being would undertand this statement

"Speaking ahead of his visit to Mullaghmore, the prince told a civic reception in Sligo: "At the time I could not imagine how we could come to terms with the anguish of such a deep loss, since for me Lord Mountbatten represented the grandfather I never had. "It seemed as if the foundations of all that we held dear in life had been torn apart irreparably. "Through this experience, I now understand in a profound way the agonies borne by so many others in these islands, of whatever faith, denomination or political tradition."

"I'm sorry but you just can't claim to know what someone else is feeling! "
So I do claim to ephathise with what he is feeling...but in only some short measure...because my great uncle/grandfather was not murdered..

"Again, why would he hold a half hour private meeting with him if he couldn't bare to look at him?"...because he is heir to the throne...that is what they have to do, if they are doing the job properly...reconcillaration etc etc

I am seriously worried that you have a complete lack of empathy and understanding of people...Swords

Betty, how does what you've just quoted morph into him feeling disgust at meeting Adams? He was speaking about how he felt at the time, 36 years ago. I took from his speech exactly what he said: That he understands and empathises with everyone who lost loved ones during the troubles. Do you know how many people have met and made peace with their family member's killers since those troubles ended? Many many people.

So you're telling me the Prince is insincere in his efforts? That he only had a private meeting with Adams because he was told to do so? Once again I think you are belittling him. You and Chaz are attempting to paint this gesture as something the Prince did against his will which would diminish its significance a lot and I think you are disrespecting him by doing so. Seriously, give the man a little bit of credit. He's not a mere puppet with Philip Hammond's hand up his arse directing his every move.

I am seriously worried that you & Chaz believe you have psychic powers!

"We should put the poor in sweat shops, obliterate another middle eastern Country kill everyone in it & take their oil, stop taxing the rich, pray the gays away and have a big book burning in the center of London"

    How'd I do?

I don't get this argument at all. I vote Conservative (if I vote at all). That doesn't mean you have to have a conservative (lower case) attitude towards things like gay marriage.

You are right on that Swordsy...I am belittling Prince Charles...He did it, I should take it at face value as a true act of reconciliation...correct

On your mind at the precise moment.

Shall I have hobnobs or choc digestives with my afternoon cuppa....RIGHT?

As wrong as it is possible to be. But then, that was always your intention, to post something that you could argue is just inside the site rules whilst still being as personally offensive as you can. I've not been here that long, but your reputation certainly precedes you...

Don't know why Gerry Adams asked to meet Charles. Part of truth and reconciliation, I presume. Seems to me when he shook Adams hand, Charles did right by all the people on the island of Ireland. I've never been a total fan of Charles, but I thought he spoke well on his visit to Mullaghmore

Hi Swordsy....Slight double standards here...you ask us, if we can read your mind....now you are "reading Chaz" mind and have decided he is an Uber Conservative".
What you said to us...please take notice of your own medicine...and do not assume you know what other people are thinking/doing/want.

I have apologised for belittling Prince Charles, it would be nice if you apologised to Chaz...please.

However I agree with your last sentence. IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON, SIR.

So as the polls do not permit canvassing on the day (I know that to be true in UK, just assuming that is true for Eire, so sorry if I am wrong)...I will be closing this thread at midnight tonight
