l can still remember Xmas 73. The kid down the road got a brand new metallic lime green dragster with front suspension shocks built-in. My mouth was ajar, like wow! I still had 28inch old bike, that had been handed down thru the ages. I hand painted it with Airfix tins of paint, paying extra attention to the nameplate on the bike and the wheel spokes. Of course, my new found friend would never let me ride his bike, so the friendship finished nearly as quick as it started. l thought he must have been lolly dealer or something, to be able to buy a bike that good!
I used to buy shirts in that Lord John when I worked in Oxford St in 1971/2, back when flowery round collars were the in-thing...
A gruesome sight of a Short Stirling Bomber Command ww2 aircraft. Most aircrew flew in these aircraft in Heavy Conversion Unit training on operations, before being placed with official squadrons and predominately flying Halifax’s & Lanc’s. Rear gunners were often ‘hosed out’ after being shot up, like the poor chap who would have sat in this turret. My father flew about half a dozen ‘milk runs’ in these Stirlings, which were easily attacked, with a low ceiling flying height, hence the reason they were eventually designated to HCU’s for training and ‘milk runs’.
2 giants of the silver screen playing off each other perfectly in the film Sleuth. One of my favourites, and probably the master Olivier's last great performance !
