First point..The full facial cover which is being increasingly worn by Muslim women is not a religious symbol at all and is actually a cultural symbol of female subservience that has emanated from Saudi Arabia. There is surely no place for this in a society and nation that is striving for equality.

Agree about the ban but I'm not sure we can say they're all the same under the sheets.

It evidently creates prejudice towards them, I see no benefits for a Niqab or Burkah, other than saving money at Halloween.

One of my Jewish customers told me today that they are preparing for Yom Kippur, which I believe is tomorrow. He said he will be fasting for 25 hours(?)

Personally, I find religions a little bit whacko, that's a long time.

It started at 6pm mate tonight, wifey doesn't have to do it this year but normally does it. **** knows why she bothers it's a total farce. I sit there shovelling sandwiches down me most years as she sits there starving.

I fasted as part of my training for a while, 16 hours per day not eating, boring as fook.

I dinnet get all this religious dress ****e.
    Burka's, Hibejabs, headscarves, turbans.
Would we expect the Catholic lasses to dress like a nun?
    No of course not.
What riles me about religion is when it starts ruling peoples lives & they start pushing it on others.
    ****wits.

All this religious clobber is bollocks IMHO. Religion, if you have a faith, is basically a way in which you approach God. Beyond that, it's simply about being a decent human being and behaving decently to other people. All the other ****e is man-made tinkering with how you go about things. I mean, WTF has a beard or a headscarf got to do with being nice to people?

It has nothing to do with being nice to people. If religion was only about being nice to people then I'd see your point Sid but it's not, so I think your point is redundant there.

Why somebody would ever be offended by how another person looks is way beyond my comprehension. People seem to think they have a Devine right to judge immigrants in this country as if they have more of a right to live here than the immigrant does, if somebody could point out to me in the rule book where that is written I'd be delighted, until then, hijab or not, you have no more of an entitlement to this land than they do.

I wouldn't have a wife if immigrants were not accepted for who and what they are in this country, neither would others on here, it'll be a cold day in hell before I let somebody convince me that foreign traditions are not welcome in this country.

But do they not dictate to us to some degree on how we should dress when in their country.

Firstly, I don't see the relevance there, we live in a free country, not every country is the same and we can't force them to be, we are not the world police.

Secondly, this is their country. Many by birth, many by application. Unless they're illegal, those ones probably wear the full Burkah so they don't get spotted.

I agree, and have personally nothing against most of their dress, but object to the covering of face by any religion. But I can understand why some people can be upset that it is our (predominately Christian) country that have to bow down to others beliefs.

Mate don't get me wrong many of them offend me but it's on an individual level, for example if they throw you a dirty look or they stare at my wife like she's ****, I just can't be offended by clothing alone, it has to be the individual.

All religions are basically about being decent to each other, Tel. The fact that many arseholes use religion as a pretext for being bastards doesn't change that. And I don't give a toss what people choose to wear because of their beliefs. I just think that all that stuff is nonsense and gets in the way of the simple process of being good to your fellow humans. I've also got nowt against immigrants as it happens, so I'm not sure what you're on about there. The firm I work for has about 35 staff, included amongst whom are 5 Mauritians, 4 Indians, 1 Chinese and a Lithuanian. We all get on great :)

Sorry mate the whole response wasn't for you just the first paragraph, I should have made that clear.

Religion is far more than being nice to each other, but each to their own, I'm not trying to convert people here just having my say, apologies if it's coming across a bit forceful.

As a youngster I remember my Mum and all her friends always wearing headscarves...however I would draw a line at the black sheets and face masks.

My understanding is that Moslem women have to be modest cos Moslem men are all worse than Trump and cannot contain themselves...why not make them all wear blindfolds and have guide dogs? inspired by Viz

The full face cover has nothing to do with any Islamic teachings..It is a cultural statement of female subservience. This has no place in a free society whose aims are equality for all.
If I'm not allowed in shops wearing a full faced balaclava or crash helmet then it should be no different for a full faced hijab.

Quite agree but the muslim men don't want equality & like to keep their women very much below them.

It comes down again to interpretations. Islam teaches to cover private parts and much of Islam takes this to what we would call an unnecessary extreme, deeming facial features to be private.

It ultimately boils down to indoctrination, what these people are taught and they all share a fear of god.

I think these traditions will die out in western countries personally, which is why many of these extremists are campaigning for Sharia Law, they fear their children will be poisoned by western tradition, where most people do not have an unhealthy fear of something that does not exist.

The Koran states that women should cover their breasts and dress conservatively... I honestly can't understand how some sections of Islamic society can interpret this as covering your face..This originated in Saudi Arabia, and has spread from there, far more so in recent decades due to the rise of social networking.. This is why I will argue it is cultural rather than religious.
