Last time I saw / passed a TT on the A63 ~ the cyclists all had the brightest back lights I'd seen & it was daytime, if people who are licenced to drive on the roads can't see them I'd be seriously worried about them being on the road full stop.
Nobody expects to see a cyclist there, as outside of the time trials, nobody’s stupid enough to cycle there.
Give the cyclists a complete carriageway i.e 1 lane west and 1 lane east. The other carriageway could be a 40mph contraflow for half a day like when roadworks are being carried out.
The TT has been going for years, it's only been a ' problem ' since increasing traffic over the last decades and the internet for us to moan about it
Be easier to simply drop the speed limit to 40 on it all the time Then all the old, half blind, drivers who don’t understand who might legally be on the road would have half a chance of seeing other road users before they run them over? Probably reduce congestion in town too
Just watching Bear Grylls programme and James crack Nell did all those challenges after retiring from rowing. Rowed the Atlantic etc. Cycling across the USA and got hit by a truck doing 70 miles an hour. I didn't know that but it just highlights how dangerous Cycling on major roads is.
I can see both sides of the discussion. But to support this aspect, the time trial organisers do put up lots of warning signs when the trial is on. There’s no excuse not to prepare for a cyclist being ahead.
I saw 3 cyclists this morning try to pass a coach trying to turn off a small road into another small road. Coach was in the middle of a 5 point or so turn and on the final turn was when the cyclists tried to squeeze through, back end swung out and clipped one of them. Didn't knock him off but didn't stop the trio from pulling over and giving the bus driver a mouthful. I followed them down the road after that into a village where there's a sharp T junction leading on to a sort of banana shaped road with a house on each corner, visibility is very poor and you have to creep out to see if it's clear (there is a stop sign). The three fly straight out without slowing down, and proceed to do about 40 mph through the village. Baring in mind this was about 7:20am but it's a lively village and still ****ing ridiculous thing to do. One of them I recognised who I saw recently giving the local police a **** load of abuse on social media because they sent a post out advising cyclists to wear helmets, after an incident where a young lad had hit a car (not the other way around) and got a nasty head injury. Apparently cyclists shouldn't have to wear helmets and it was the cars fault anyway. These are the type of ****s that want to cycle on the A63. To be honest if they really want to, then let them.
Why are you suddenly talking about that small stretch of the A63? The suggested ban was for cycles from North Cave to Daltry St People cycle on the parts of the A63 that the ban was suggested for FACT
It's a tight country road, I don't think it's possible to get a coach down that junction in less. There's a little country manor pub hotel thing down there that biddies go on coach trips to. A bit ludicrous really.
