What are your highlights and disappointments for this season... Highlights: August: The ten points in four games picked up at the beginning of the season. Unknown at the time but six of those points came against current play-off contenders Cheltenham (home) and Crewe (away). Within all this was the strong performance away to Championship side Brighton and although we lost 0-1 it was another August performance that had every fan believing. Crewe 3-4 March: Now this is a strange one because it probably should be under disappointment but the way Crewe ripped us to bits in the final 15 minutes, was heartache as a supporter but the opposition waves of attack after attack was impressive. We came back from 1-3 down to level 3-3 but the visitors had the final say and if anyone deserves promotion this season they do. Rotherham 0-0 February: Performance of the season and despite one of the lowest attendances of the season for this mid-week game, with a back line up of Evans, Essam, King, Jackman this showed the way forward and should have remained so! Many supporters missed this game and people still give me stick over Hereford (see later) but goals are not everything and for those that did not turn up, they will never know. Frank Nouble & Jordan Obita: Shows the value of loan signings, although Frank Nouble was my favourite of the two. Players: In no particular order, Jack Evans, Connor Essam, Ashley Miller, Gavin Tomlin, Simon King, Danny Jackman (POY). Disappointments: Luke Rooney: Many will not agree with me but this sale really disappointed me and probably in part cost us our season. We bring in the transfer fee with one hand then count the cost of it with the other. Worst decision of the season for me. Hereford 5-4: You all know my story by now, if not then you don't need to worry about it, quickly moving on - lol Failure for a second season: how ever many wins you need out of remaining games, regardless, we buried our heads and continue to bury our heads in the sand. Players: Joe Martin Behind closed doors: Just embarrassing as a supporter the scenarios of Stoke and Swindon. ............................. I have probably missed many but I will leave the rest to your choices...
Highlight - Winning promotion Disappointment - Errmm?? None or perhaps that Wycombe may be relegated because we took a loan player (Hayes) back and have not played him
Highlight- Signing Joe Kuffour - one of my favourite players in league 1 and 2. Great feeling when we signed him on loan and on a full time deal. Disappointment- Bottling it against lesser teams that has ruined our season.
Yes seriously, since signing in January he hasn't been quite as good as he was on loan but thats because he has been forced to play second fiddle. Mark my words if we sign him up again next season and play him regularly he will score 20+ goals.
Very few highlights to mention but the development of the youngster is promising but I don't think they are ready to be first team regulars yet. Disappointments: Whelpdale and Lee failing to make the same impact they did last year and not replacing Hendon
Highlights Triggers pre match warm up sessions The chicken balti pie Reading the KM online comments for all Gills articles (best entertainment of the season) Disappointment Gillingham Football Club....
Highlights Taking my son to his first Gills game. The talk on here The youngsters coming through Disappointments Losing to teams we really should beat Being drawn in to commenting on KM OnLine Not being able to go to games The injuries, oh the injuries
Highlights Signing Birchall Away at Orient The Hereford game......Thats it !! Disapointments Birchall getting injured Only getting Tomlin on loan Losing to too many teams we should beat Collapse of the the home form Seeing Hess make scapegoats of players to deflect his own short comings (Lawrence) Hess not playing the fittest person for a position but jigling in someone to play out of position The clubs ludicrous stance on policing The clubs even more ludicrous stance on not letting us know whats happening The decision to play next year in red Having to listen to poor comentators on Gills player that talk like were sitting next to them and have seen what happened. Losing to Swindon (Sorry getting ahead of myself)
Highlights Running down my row like a mad man as Tomlin's goal against Hereford hit the net. (Seriously, when's the DVD?!) The away atmosphere at Orient. My first away game of the season...at Hereford. The departure of Luke Rooney. The brief return of Simon King. Nick Powell's performance against us for Crewe. Slightly warped mindset I know, but the kid was quality. Disappointments The fact that it's April and our manager still doesn't know his favoured formation. The constant injuries, suspensions and alterations to the starting XI. Players underperforming as per expectations. Notably, Whelpdale (although recently coming into his own) Frampton, Montrose, Kuffour. The fact that things are probably not going to change in the summer...
Highlights: - 5-4 vs Hereford - Briefly believing at the start of the season that we were genuine promotion contenders - Winning the World Cup (at Crawley) - Getting big FA Cup 3rd round tie - Tomlin being amazing Lowlights: - Us just not being good enough - The hugely inconsistent defence - 5 defeats on the trot that effectively ended our promotion hopes - The INJURIES - In particular Birchall
