can you blame them after the past six season????? We are just an ijits who keep handing our money over come what may. Thankfully there are others who have common sense who don't.

yep agree but last Saturday it was great to see just how many dads had young kids with them , certainly more that the usual.
Considering the COVID situation and 3 years in this ****ty league I think the attendances are nothing short of miraculous I love how the momentum is growing and the atmosphere in the ground is the best in years If we can keep it going and are still playing like this at Christmas I can see the Sheff Wed attendance being massive. Pity it wasn’t on Boxing Day

Wouldn't disagree. We have a number of disillusioned people....lets say general supporters....who will want to see a sustained resurgence in our fortunes before they'll go back as genuine fans. We also have a number who will only go when the team is winning.

I don't know whether it's right,but I thought I noticed how many younger boys and girls were there on Saturday. I'm in the East Stand, so don't know if the same everywhere,but it was noticeable to me.
In some ways it's better to bring kids when the club isn't in disarray and the atmosphere poor ...
... it's not like Newcastle have been a big drawer tbh.
The Mags are helping to make things so gloomy that it's putting people off going.

Well,as one who's taken his Grandkids,who don't live in the area,it's definately better to take them when the team is on the up,playing attractive football,scoring goals and with a good,vocal atmosphere. It isn't really important to them,I don't think,which division we're in,as long as the other things are constant.
The other significant thing I've found,is that,because we are a relatively small city,they are impressed by how much the football club dominates both the skyline and the matchday. One of my kids once said to me how it seemed that everyone out and about was going to the match...no-one was doing anything else.
We always stand beside bob before we go in, usually around 15 minutes or so (North Stand) but the past few weeks has seen an increase in young'uns having their photos taken beside Bob. There is a definite increase so long may it continue...All rubbing Bobs boot for luck. Strange little things you notice...
anyone who'll only go back on the back of a 'sustained resurgence' isn't a 'genuine fan' imo.

Wouldn't disagree ned. I think if any resurgence is " sustained" it will attract those who are looking to buy into the kudos of it.... and ,for them, as long as it lasts.
Let's call them "fairweather" fans.
Like it or not there's a phenomenon called 'our lass' which states that it's easier to justify spending £50/60/70 when a team is flying and going for promotion ...
... than playing shyte football and going nowhere.
There are all kinds of aspects to it tbh.
It's the same £50/60/70 whether your top of the league or bottom. And if it's a case of "....to either cut down on beer or the kid's new gear....." to quote the great P. Weller esq., now THAT'S a reasonable excuse full stop and means you shouldn't be going top OR bottom. IMO.

I think what the last five years or so have shown is that we have a massive ‘die hard’ contingent.
Having suffered the dross we have for the majority of the past 50 years, our attendances are simply astounding.
pick any top team in Europe and ask yourself - would they be averaging more, having suffered as we have for a similar same amount of time?
Success brings more supporters to the stadium, but when that success is achieved we will know that 2/3 of those in attendance will be there if things don’t go to plan - no matter what.

Hmm. No one comes out looking very good from 'who's a better fan' arguments in my opinion. If people don't attend games that's their own business and they must have their reasons. There are exiles who know every minute detail of the club's history, follow every result, watch every stream, read every bit of news but get to a game once every couple of years. There are people who go every week who couldn't tell you what year the club was founded, where the first ground was, what the Hemy painting is etc., etc.
