Then Villas-Boas has to use a different system this season, as you won't have enough time to bed in lots of new signings.

Am I reading this right, a Chelsea fan calling 4 times European Cup winners Ajax "a minor club" that is one of the most ridiculous comments I have ever read. Ajax are one of the great football clubs in Europe who have earnt far more success and have produced far greater players than Chelsea ever have, without the help of a Russian billionaire.

Chelsea are a small club, with a small stadium, who bought abit of short term success domestically, though they are still along way off being anywhere near as big a club as Ajax

If you look and the premiership this season you can definitely see a trend in teams scoring more goals and teams being more attack minded. This trend has been brought about by Barcelona's excellent attacking game. Everybody knows you can get at Barcelona but they generally inflict more damage on you whilst your trying. This mat make for more sexier football and the games are better to watch but the teams who play the opposite to that style are finding it hard to grasp the the changes needed to play with a higher line.

I believe this is what we are seeing at Chelsea this season and the team is in transition. The double season was the present squads swan song and needed to be shaken up and new players brought in. We have had 8-9 fantastic years and the senior players of the squad should be playing lesser roles with the younger element pushing through with the newer lads. Albeit the last two defeats have come at the hands of basic errors by seasoned professional players who should never lose possession in the centre whilst pushing a high line. Malouda's back pass past JT for RVP to nip in and Mikel's astonishing debacle gave the defence no chance.

When Mourinho made Chelsea's defence virtually impenetrable in 2004/5 & 2005/6 Chelsea were imperious and played good attacking football at times but not every time as the result was more important. United were playing a higher line and a look at their goals for & against column tells us this but they scored more than they conceded and Fergie has successfully embraced this over the years. When Chelsea won back-to-back titles they negated United's playing style and Fergie changed it to tighter all round to match Chelsea.

With teams now all seemingly embracing this new attacking style one wonders if the Mourinho approach would work again? Chelsea now have conceded 17 goals already this year 2 more than the whole 2004/5 season. If Roman wants AVB to adopt this style (which we must assume he does) he needs to play Torres every game along side Sturridge also players like McEachran and Romeu need regular outings too. I think we have to consolidate this season to ensure UCL football next year which may mean a compromise in attacking style.

What he is saying is they are no longer considered a big club as they have only won one league title in 10 years and their last european success was seventeen years ago. so he is right as history is only for looking at.
