Anyone familiar with Hexham racecourse? Is there any decent racing there?

My daughter (Amanda, for anyone not aware of that) has been invited to a race meeting there (I think in May) and wants to know if any good horses run there

Well it’s not a grade one track as you know , so like a lot of the local tracks , they have their own vibe , regular crowds , regular horses , not your graded type , but she should go with an open mind , and take the day as she finds it !!

Once went down to Hexham with my Mum many years ago (late 1980's/early 1990's) during the week of the Cheltenham Festival. Our plan was to watch the races from C'ham on the TV and have a few bets at, what we had heard, was a great wee local race course with a special atmosphere. After catching the local 'rattler' from Newcastle we ventured into a 'local' for lunch. It was plain from the conversations that the meeting was in doubt. It seems the course is 'higher' than the town and even if Hexham town is clear from snow the course can be covered in the white stuff. I cannot be sure but seem to recall we discovered that the meeting was cancelled less than one hour before the first race. Not that I was too bothered; the 'not knowing' allowed me close on two hours of Jack Daniel's while Flo ransacked the Charity stores of Hexham!

I hope this non-attendance at the race course helps!:emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl:

Shamefully, I have not been and it is my local track next to Newcastle along the A69.
Hexham is a very nice little town and would be worth a visit.
